Went to Lute Riley Honda for my first oil change today and after they changed the oil I noticed my car was smoking on the way home. Turned around after getting more gas and about a third the way back my engine light came on not letting me go past 4000 rpm and then my oil light came on. As I was moving over to the shoulder my battery light came on and I lost all power from the motor. My car was towed and at the dealership they couldnt turn it over. Turns out either the oil filter had a bad gasket or the tech did a bad job. Anyways, I am working on getting a new motor, hopefully a K20A2!!!!:D

If they put the K20A2 in my warranty will be voided!!! Oh, well Im still going to have them put one in if that is the only thing keeping them from doing it.

that sucks ass man, the exact same thing happend to me. Luckily I caught it before my engine was damaged (i hope) those fuckers cant change oil if their life depended on it. I wanted to make the greese monkey who changed my oil eat that leaky filter! Well at least you get a brand new engine!

I had the same problem a couple weeks ago. The tech guy that changed my oil fucked up, he must've been new.

I hate bringing my car in for any work. I hate dealing with the service writers and the incompetent work that they often do. Usually, it takes them a few tries to get them right. My previous car, each time I bring it in, I ended up getting a nick or scratch on the trim or door. This is also at a nice fancy dealership selling Mazda, Nissan, VW, Audi and Porsche.

Anyway, I would be really surprised, really really surprised they would give you a brand new engine. Chances are they'll fix what they can with your current engine or give you a re-manufactured ones. Hoping to get a k20a2 dropped in there, you might as well wish for the tooth fairy.

All dealerships that I have dealt with are the scums of the earth.

First, Type X's ride gets stolen... NOW THIS?

I have a question, is the tech even test driving the car after doing the oil change? The techs at my dealership always drive the car around for a few minutes, even take it on the open highway for a spin to make sure there are no problems. It seems like they would run across this problem if this was part of their routine during maintenance.

Well it looks more like I am going to be able to get the Type S motor. The Civic Si cylinder head is on backorder without any release date. So he gave me a choice, the Type S motor or a new car. Im going to take the motor!! I did find one in the area at an Acura dealership. So hopefully in a couple of days I will be driving a Type S Si!!!!:p

I WANT THAT BAD DEALERSHIP OIL CHANGE TOO.....to get a A2 beast too LOL :D

Vertigo

Bad deal on the A3 motor. Cool deal on the A2 motor. The tech probally double ringed the oil filter gasket. That's why i do all my own maintenance.

Question....why did they offer you an K20A2 instead of just another Si engine???

JSIR
03-18-2003, 08:06 PM
chances are they left the old gasket on the block when the filter was removed, and tried to put a new filter over top of it. I would push for a new motor for sure , cause it likely overheated before seizing up and no telling what other damage was done internally.

They didnt offer the K20A2....I TOLD them I wanted to have them put this motor in. Since the Si cylinder head is unavailable they are going with what I want.

Congrats on the mishap, not bad K20A2. After they do the swap, you should see what kind of service can be done on the tranny. Since you are lucky, lucky, maybe six speed tranny soon to come.

03-18-2003, 10:07 PM
Not a bad deal! just one question-do you want a dealership that can't even perform a simple oil change properly doing an entire engine swap? not tryin to piss on your parade or anything, just curious.

2k2civicSi
03-18-2003, 10:14 PM
are you staying with the 5spd tranny?

hamproof

I really want to see justice done (I really really hate dealerships).

Hopefully, someone higher up at the dealership doesn't go back on whoever promise you.

If I were you, I'll get it in writing that they will replace the engine with the k20a2 and pay for all necessary labor and parts as well as well as the 6 speed tranny. Also, make sure you get in writing that you will get the same factory warranty as if it was a brand new car with the new engine.

NemesisITR
03-19-2003, 09:57 AM
I have to use the same dealership who blew up the motor, but not the same tech.

I am going to use the stock 5 speed cause I dont want a 6 speed. A 6 speed is just a gimmic, plus haveing your car in 6th makes the engine work even harder. You also cannot top out in 6th gear anyway.

As to the warranty, Honda will not warranty the engine or car anymore since the Civic Si doesnt come with a Type S motor from the factory even if I cant get a stock Si motor to replace the one that was blown up. However, the dealership will warranty 12/12 for the workmanship. Since it is a new Honda motor I am getting, hopefully, I will not have any motor problems.

Hopefully this will go thru as planned, but you never know, I might end up just getting another (new) Si!!

Didn't your oil pressure indicator light up??? I have noticed that these warning lights are hard to see in some lighting conditions but it should have come on.

NemesisITR

The light came on, then a lot of smoke, and then no power:D

almost didnt make it off the highway, missed a truck by a bumper!
