I like the UK CTR one better. It goes to 260km ;)

looks like ours. i'm actually more stoked about the aluminum control arms for the dc5. assuming of course that they fit our rides.:)

Red line is different, it's in km. and it says Type R. I really like it.

any chance these are made in mph also, just something about the high red line and 180-260 that would make me feel cool, but would prefer mph..hehe:D

This cluster would be silly unless you have Hondata or a higher redlining engine swap...

I guess you could get really good at doing multiplication... use kph * .6 to get approximate mph... ;)

lol I thought there was a uk cluster in mph, could have swore I saw one somewhere once...

so has anyone seen one or knows where to get one in MPH?
That with hondata would be perfect.

Mugen_EP

Well if you think about it 180km is about 110 mph and 260km is about 140 mph. So you already have the mph version.;)

 one in mph w/out the math, I'm sick of my calculus classes and don't want to do math while driving,

that cluster would be silly in any ep that isnt a type r, since the needles still move the same distance for given rpm's.

i.e. the 0-8000 on the type r is a lot shorter distance than on our tame ep's. 3000 on our car is not 3000 on the type r cluster.

in canada we got KM/H perfect for me if i had the hondata flash on my ECU :) wooo hooo haha

If I get the Hondata flash, I'll stick with the original US instrument cluster.

That way, when I go to the new "redline", I can say that it goes off the scale. ;)

That was one of my main concers, how would it be possible to get the type r cluster to read correctly, would an engine and ecu swap automatically change that? or would something else be needed? someone said earlier, something about the needle working electronically? how would that effect proper reading after a cluster swap along with hondata or complete engine and ecu swap?

The only difference I see is the Type R and the 9000 redline. We use Km/h too.

Man I need that cluster!....Since I miss shifted twice and tach went past 8000 rpms, ooops! I want to know how High I reved! hahahahahaha... Also its on Modacar.com for the same price I believe!;)

I wonder if we can just get the tachometer or get an after market brand to make a cover that goes to 10000 rpm's? I can Have a 8,000 rpm redline just by using white out on our gauge cluster! Bwahahahahahahaha:p

StrangeShadow
04-23-2003, 03:37 AM
ah!! no white out for me...I'ld rather have a custume one made :p

Ummmm....NO. 8000 RPM is the same in Japan, dumb-ass. There are no JDM or metric RPM readings.

The ECU sends the tach signal to the cluster. It doesn't care what cluster is in there, it sends a signal and the cluster translates that into a reading on the tach. The needles do NOT move the same distance, it works off electrical resistance. So 3000 rpm is 4 ohms or whatever, 8000 rpm is a different resistance, etc.

My EP isn't a Type R, but it sure does need that cluster!

jesus christ. i didnt know the tach was electronic. if it was mechanical like previous ones i have messed with, the needle would point to the wrong rpm. didnt mean to ruin your day or anything by posting innaccurate information....:'(

Has anyone found out where this Type R cluster with MPH can be purchased? What country is this cluster used in, maybe that would help? Thks.

Thks for the help, but if you look closely the one they are selling is in Km/hr. I searched the web for a while and never could find the Type R cluster w/ mph. It would probably require ordering one through a dealer in the UK. That looks like where they are used - I download a UK Type R brochure just to be sure. I'm sure that would be pretty expensive to get. Not worth with effort or money for most, just to get an 8K redline on the tach. I think the best option might be to find or have made an overlay.

someone tha sells JDM products should be able to get them, I got a resent mag with a stock uk type-r in the back section, and with the interrior shots you can see the tach is in mph, so it shouldn't be excessively hard to get one, just give it a little more time.

I wish it was MPH. Here is a larger picture of that cluster. It does seem strange that it only goes to 180 km/h actually 190 km/h if you look at it. Pretty slow, translates to 117.8 mph. Multiply by 0.62 I believe. I'm still searching, but I'm not really sure if I'm willing to pay for one. hth

Something else I noticed on this cluster. It's missing the little green key symbol down by the fasten seat belt symbol. Just thought I'd point that out for what its worth.

StrangeShadow
06-25-2003, 03:07 PM
I read somewhere about the JDM OEM ECU having a 110mph cutoff, which might explain why some clusters don't go up to 220kph, think that's one of the prbs Port ran into when swapping in his ITR k2. I've seen a UK one in mph, think they go to about 180 mph, w/a 8rpm redline.

It's also got a Door Ajar light instead of "MAINT REQ'D", and its brake warning light is the more typical version you find everywhere else in the world, instead of "BRAKE"

I doubt it would make a difference. You just won't have that light there to flash randomly. It's even more useless than the MAINT REQ'D light.
