Amp install to factory head unit?

I've been thinking about installing one of my amps to power the stock speakers in my EP. I want to run the amp with the stock head unit. I know that since it doesn't have any RCAs I'm going to have to buy something that will tap into the speaker wires going out? Has anyone done this? Does it sound crappy having to rig it like that? What exactly is the process to hook up an amp to the stock head unit?
