View Full Version : My crooked shift knob

I recently purchased an aluminum shift knob for the RSX (5-speed)

I also went ahead and got the JDM CTR boot.

I have two problems:

1) I am currently keeping the boot held up by having electrical tape wrapped aroudn the shift linkage underneath it. This does keep it in the proper position, but it looks like crap. My girlfriend makes fun of it every time she gets in the car. Suggestions? With nothing on the shift linkage, the boot sits way too low!

2) The RSX knob is crooked. It's not a big deal to me, but it most certainly doesn't look clean. Basically, the whole shift pattern faces North east instead of facing straight north! I need a suggestion here too!

lol my shifter twisted off of direct north actually(it's the stock shifter), I think I might have shifted a little too hard and paranoidally(insane grip) the first few days =P

I cranked it back to north and it's been fine since(I stopped being paranoid)

I finally got around to taking some pictures.

Bubble gum won't be helpful, but I appreciate the humor in this.

To refresh everyone's memory

My JDM shift boot needs something underneath to hold it up. Otherwise, it sits way too low. I'm using electrical tape wrapped on the linkage underneath it, but it looks like hell. That's in the 2nd picture.

My RSX shift knob does not point the right way! I want the shift pattern facing due north, and it's more like due east! Picture included.

I need specific parts to fix this. I'm sure this is a common problem. As far as I can figure, a rubber sleeve stretched over the shift linkage would hold the boot up without looking nasty. The shift knob probably needs a grommet or a flange nut, but I don't know any dimensions or part numbers to go ask for at Home Depot or Pep Boys. Anyway, here's the pictures, please help me out, and don't clown me too hard.

Most shift knobs come with a jam nut.If yours didnt...find one and back off knob until faces north and tighten jam nut underneath konb to hold in place.

Guys....

snide comments aside, NEITHER of my problems have even been addressed.

Type X, how would you suggest I go about holding up the JDM shift boot? With nothing underneath, the chrome ring sits about 3-4 inches away from the knob. Plus, the brass colored shift linkage underneath looks like all hell without anything on it.

Secondly, what little part do I need to straighten the shift knob? Should I just toss that one and be more careful with the next one?

hey where u get that ring under the knob??? will it stay on the stick just like the type R? because i have an aftermarket shiftknob and the boot has been dangling around, and i dunno what to do.

Well guys, I fixed it. If anyone cares, here's the new and improved civic! Boot is fixed, knob is fixed, cool little JDM sidemarkers are installed, and the Red H decal is looking pretty cool. What do you guys think?
