First off, always trust your own ears when speaker shopping. Second, be sure to bring a test CD with you that you are familiar with. Always listen to the speakers being powered by the same amount of power you will be feeding them. Otherwise, they may sound better at the shop than in your ride.

My favorites that I swear by (Personal preference):

Deck: JVC / Pioneer
Speakers: Always MB Quart
Subs: Kicker

my setup is shown down below on my sig, I have preference to digital audio/audiobahn (digital audio is audiobahns low end company but all it is is last years stuff painted ren instead of blue with a minor price drop) The sound quality is excellent and for the money you cant get anything better.

What does everybody think of Rockford Fosgate head units?

I've been thinking of putting in a MP3 compatible HU and I really like the design of the Rockford... Nice big dials, big buttons.

But how do they sound?

I'm not a HUGE audiophile, I just want a deck that plays MP3s and doesn't have a zillion tiny buttons.
