Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a good chrome bumber for an older car like a Cutlass or a Buick Regal? That why it is so profitable to steal old cars. There was a special on TLC two days ago called "Stolen every 23 Seconds" it also covered why chop shops are so profitable.

They showed how easy it is to break of the "Club" of your steering wheel. They said the best theft deterent was the "Autolock". Its like a club but it will not let your brake pedal down. It pushes from the floor to the break pedal colum which is one of the strongest points inside your car.

f1fever: older cars are simply easier to steal! They don't have any of the high-tech security stuff like newer cars do. Some of the cars on the list are also easy-cheesy cars to break into with a slim jim. Talk to a car theif about how easy it is to break into a 93 honda compared to an 83 volvo.

PS--I had an ex-car thief help me break into my car when I locked my keys in it....that was an interesting discussion!

yup, older cars are easier to steal. older accords and civics are pieces of cake to rip of if you wanted to.

The club is relatively easy to circumvent, but it is still a good deterrant in a city where it can be widely found. I think its a good deterrant on the SI because our steering wheel is too valuable for someone to want to hacksaw through!

Kill switches are really good too. In regards to the Auto lock, what's to stop a thief from stealing your car and using the ebrake to limp back to the chop shop? Isn autolock supposed to go on the gas pedal?

If you have an automatic the autolock goes on the brake and they cant take the car out of PARK. On a manual you put the autolock on the clutch so they cant put the car in gear. ;)

Tell Me what do you think....

1) Bend tube piping a little thicker than brake line tubing and slide all of your alarm wiring through and kill switch wiring.

2) Make a small metal junction box (like in house wiring) with key or closed with torx screws or allen screws under the hood that connects to your battery.

3) Replace the screws on your battery with torx or another type of pain in the @ss screw that you never seem to have the right driver for.

Unless the theif carries a good, strong cutter or the right bits to unscrew the different screws, he will not be able to drive away in your vehicle.

This will at least increase the time it would take to steal your car or at least let the alarm go off a few times. They can still steal your stuff inside your car rather quickly, however it might prevent them from taking the whole car.

Wow Nevada has the mid 90's saturn on there, a couple weeks ago, our friends had their saturn stolen. I guess those lists are somewhat accurate.

That sounds like a good idea, my friends 82 accord had one very similar to your idea.....his also utilized some of that metal "flex-lume" material protecting the wiring inside the car. His car was never stolen....but his dad snapped the timining belt.
