I drive hard, so this caught my attention, my engine makes a tapping noise when it is running, and I am hoping it is not valve damage. I am including a video clip with the engine noise, any ideas? do other EP's engines make that same noise?, I need to know, thanks.

What rpm is that at?
Is it at all rpm or just one?
Sounds like it might be injector noise.

the car is idling, I am filming it and no one is in the car.

does anyone else's engine sound like that

does it do that all the time? my car has some loud clatter sometimes, but only when it is cold. my car is warmed up even and it will clatter, just as long as it is pretty cold outside. i'm not sure if it sounds exactly the same as that noise since it hasn't done it in a while. i have oil consumption problems as well if that is even relevant.

what kind of oil are you using?

the ticking sounded a little faster than what my injectors sound like.....

oh yeah.... how abusive are you to your engine?

fishboy

i use 5w30 and i would think i am pretty abusive. i don't have 7 autoxs or anything i just shift at high rpms pretty frequently.

I am not super hard on my engine. I use 5w20 oil. My car was still warm, I parked it about 45min before the video.

ALTHOUGH

when you moved the cam towards the injectors it was super load, towards the AI it was quite.

so go figure. take your injectors off_

From my experience it's the valves.
Have you check your oil?

What does adjusting the valves do?

SHAKEnBAKE, what do you think it being the valves means? Out of adjustment or what. Thx

Yeah, my engine sounds like that. Actually its been like that since I got the car. I have about 14,000 miles on it. Is it the valves?

I just listened side by side to my friends EP, his enjine did not make any ticking noises at all. My oil was perfect, hi was low. I called Honda, they are going to look at it.

IMO it's the lubrication. But come to think about it, this kinda shit only happens to high milage (old ass) cars. So I could be wrong.

And for adjusting the valves, I don't know what they(dealer) does, but my old 94 Accord is scheduled for valve adjustment for like every 10,000 i think.:)

yeah i take back what i said earlier, my car does make the same noise. this after it was fully warmed. i have 30k miles on my car too. after seeing that others have the same sound i'm not so worried anymore.

I took mine back to honda for the same noise and they said it was the injectors. Somehow I don't believe them. If anything happens though i'm blaming duncan honda of blacksburg.

that is how mine sound like too at 13k miles... oil is good... power is good... response is good... so no problem!

I have 14k on mine and it has has valve chatter since i bought it. Not quite as bad as the one in the video but its defenitly there. The ticking is only there at idle though. I dont really worry about it because all the dohc 4 bangers ive owned seemed to make some kind of chatter. I think its just in the design.

I went to Honda and the head mechanic listened to my engine, and his thought is that if is not the valves but is the injectors for sure. :) few
