I just bought the GEX-FM903XM and need some advice on install considerations on the EP3. I'm thinking the box will go underneath the passenger seat.

What about the power and ground connections? Can I use the add a fuse thingys? Does anybody know which fuses I can use the splicers on for 12v switched and 12v constant? I like the idea of minimizing any cutting. Is there sufficient power provided by splicing fuse box circuits to power the unit? I read there's a ground close to the passenger seat so that's cool.

I'm using PIE adapters to avoid FM modulation and will toss the 10 dollar "GLI" in there while I'm at it.

Now the part that I like the least...

The antenna.

My first choice is the Antenna Specialists XM/20CP.

It looks pretty low key and will probably blend in great with my NBP. What do you guys think about installing it in front of the stock antenna and running the wires under the base of the stock antenna? Can the 'gasket' around the stock antenna handle some wires slipped underneath it? Can I use silicone to seal it up? Will it be easy to share the existing antenna wire channel? I hope removing the headliner is not too painful (got a Helms).

I hope to install it during this long weekend. Thanks!

Marco

I have an XM antenna on my car. I would suggest that you mount the antenna behind the factory one. Removing the base will be difficult (dropping headliner) and you will have a hard a hard time insuring no leaks. I routed the antenna through the grommet in the hatchback, followed the brake light lines into the car and down the pillar into the hatch area. Only 2 inches of wire is visible and have had no leaks, all without touching the headliner.

Hi surprise,

That sounds pretty good, maybe I'll try that with the new Pioneer antenna. Where did you install the tuner and where did you get power(s) and ground? Thanks.

My case is a little different. I am using a SkyFi, the unit is the tuner and display and is located where the cig lighter is. I only had to tap into one accessory wire. The cigarette lighter proved to be the best option for me. Good choice in using the PIE adapter, I am currently using the Blitzsafe version. I like the AE antenna a lot, infact that is what I would have used if the SkyFi did not come with an antenna.

I mounted my XM antenna behind my factory one. And then I ran my wires through my top break light and hid the wires behind my quarter panel. It ended up looking clean and sounded awesome. But I sold it now.
