How many miles do you average on a full tank after basic mods (I/H/E)? I get about 220-230 miles on a full tank. It dropped substantially after these mods, as expected. I was just curious if everyone else was averaging the same.

I am averaging about 250 before the light comes up.

I use 91 octane.

You can get 300+ miles per tank if you slowly fill your tank at the pump. I think what happens when you pump fast is that the gas and air mixes and forms bubbles which causes the pump to shut off prematurely. If you slow down like towards the end you can put a lot more gas in. I was getting something like 280 then I slowed down at the pump and I am getting about 340-350.

I have intake only and I typically get about 250 in mixed conditions: 1.city 2.highway 3.country roads doing 0-60 and 0-80 (have to do this almost weekly to get my fix). I recently got 320 on the highway. I really had to dip into the reserve to get that far though (partway into the E). Still, the car only took 11.5 gallons so I wasn't even close to empty. If you drove like a grandma, on the highway, with a bone stock EP, and you were willing to bury the needle in the E - I bet you could go 375 miles on a tank.

I've got a CAI and Progress spring (1.8" drop = better areodynamics???).

Driving everyday to and from work, I get right at 300 miles/tank.

Driving 450 miles back from Chicago a few weekends ago, with the cruise locked at 80 mph about 90% of the way, I got 34 miles/gallon (forgot the actual milage). I was seriously impressed. I averaged 71.5 mph throughout the trip, including stops, and still got 34 mpg. And that was with only 4,000 miles on the car...not even fully broken in yet.

I don't have any mods, but I have been averaging a little over 32 mpg. I usually stop to get gas around 320-330 miles, and it usually takes about 10 gallons to fill up. 90% of my driving is highway.

Also, just an fyi. I used to have an 01 lx with i/h/e, and I was getting 40 mpg on the highway, which was better than what I was getting stock. Go figure.

Ive only ran the car empty enough for the low fuel warning light to come on once, cant recall how many miles, but on average i fill up around 310miles on the tank

what the hellllll....... i only get about 220 (mostly city) when the light first comes on (about 4 gallons left in tank..) .... you saying i can go another 80 or so miles after the light is on?!?! or do i just drive the car too high in the rpms?

i must admit i do enjoy the sound of redline a few times a day :D

It is all subjective. It depends on your travelling speed... I doubt any of you could do 300 miles when clocking at 90mph.

You guys are getting pretty good mileage after basic mods. Wonder why mine sucks.... :'(

It all depends on how you drive the car. Drive it hard and milage suffers. No mystery in that. I get about 27-29 miles per gallon city/highway. I get a lot of commute traffic, so milage suffers there. Bay area traffic blows!! But it does keep me from speeding too much, which my girlfriend says is good.
I do about 32 mpg just highway. I find that the fuel light comes on after ten gallons are depleted (this is consistant starting from a full tank) according to the manual, we have a thirteen gallon tank... so I supposedly can go another 80-90 miles?
I would guess that on a trip we could get fairly close to 400 miles on a full tank, provided you are cruising around 3500 rpm (70ish)

On the flip side, when I am driving the car like it wants to be driven, I only get around 25-26 mpg. Nothing crazy, just some fast starts and using that delightful third gear to the best of its potential.
If you get the tach above 4000 rpm consistantly there is a huge difference in fuel consumption. Remember your break in period? Unbelievable milage. after break-in... mmmmmm vtec.....

My EP3 hates around town shifting. It seems to me that I am getting terrible mileage when I am stop and go, first second third over and over. When I take trips an average a good 70 or 80 MPH the mileage gets much better. I only have 2100 miles on my '03

Cruising up and down Highway 5 with the cruise set at 85 (4200 rpm) I get just below 30 mpg or about 330 miles.

I get between 210 - 240 on a tank using 91 octane. I have I/E/Suspension. I think this sucks ass. I'm taking mine back to the dealer after 10,000 miles if it still does it... mods, schmods, my last gen civic coupe would get near 400 miles per tank on shit gas (87 octane) with more mods.

Oh, and I am ALWAYS above 4K rpms ... heheh ... and usually AutoXing twice a month as well.

They why are you complaining? Honda can't help you drive slower....we've already said that driving above 4k will kill your mileage - when I drive a little more like a maniac I get the same mileage you do. Drive a more conservatively and you'll see an improvement.

shit... your right

-- hell, im still getting 24 mpg when city, autocrossing and freeway driving is combined.

and whats advertised? 26mpg city?

Im happy.

... only thing is ... I can drive above 4K rpms and not drive like a maniac. Maniacs dont do well at AutoX. :p

That is not true at all. You can use VP racing fuel and it will not void your warranty.

Damn it damn it damn it damn it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How come I can only get 240 miles per tank!!!!!

What the hell is going on, I don't drive like a maniac, plus I do 65-70MPH on the freeway for 100 of those miles.

Crap crap crap crap crap!!!!!!!

Do you think me O2 sensor is bad?

Any ideas?

How many miles are on your car? I was getting about the same when my motor was still in its break in period. I noticed my EP getting better gas mileage as I racked up more miles and it continues to get better. Now the gas light comes on at about 280 miles which means I still have 3.5 gallons left & am getting good gas mileage.

I'm getting about 220 mostly street driving. Seems like it's always the people in SoCal getting the worse gas mileage. Oh well, I love taking it to 8k on the tach. ;)

Don't forget to put your mileage in the gas mileage poll. (http://ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=16416)

gas bought divided by miles traveled. The odometer comes in handy. i get aroud 250...driving like a car molestor. 280-290 when driving conserved. but after my injen. haha...im one crazy guy =o)

liljosh63

i get anywhere from 350 to 380 for the tank and when i fill up it always fills up around 12 gallons...so i still have a gallon to go b4 i have to fill up so im sure i could get 400 out of my tank if i wasnt worried about runnin out. my light comes on at about 270 then i always fill up around 360 but one time i had to take it to 380 and didnt run out

Well im not sure what i did, but i only average about 180-190 mpg, completly stock. Was it that i drove to agressive during break-in, or is something wrong with my poor ep? =*(

Ok here is the real question.....

You guys say you are getting 300-400 miles to a tank.

Now how far are you driving after the light comes on.

My gas light comes on anywhere from 250 to 280.

Being that we have 13 gallon tanks for the full tank I'm getting anywhere from 25-28 miles per gallon.

So my ENTIRE tank of gas should last me 325-364 miles.

Please post what are you talking about. I dont think our cars differ that much. Some of you guys are saying you are getting 220 miles to the tank and some of are you saying you are getting 400 miles to the tank.

Are you guys talking about when the light comes on or when you use the entire 13 gallons.

liljosh63
09-24-2003, 11:55 AM
ok...im talking about the entire tank...when the light comes on that means that you have 3 gallons left. So say you get 25 miles to the gallon then you have approximately 75 miles until empty. my light comes on at around 260-280 depending on my driving and i usually go around 80 miles, 100 sometimes when i try to push it. i havent ran out yet so i dont know how far i can actually go...hope this helped you a little bit

everyone we need to get a grooup buy of rsx six speeds so when we are goin about 80 we will be about 3000 rpms and we will all have badass gas mileage we are picking up where the honda engineers forgot to put into our car......

my gas light come on at 310 and oh hell, if i have 3 more gallon after that i might be close to 380... the most that i ever gotten driving ( the right way at low RPM.) i was able to hit 360 once.. for 3 gallon i could get about 60-65 miles on it..or even more sometime. this one time i fill my tank up to $5.00 thats when it costed about 1.99 and i only get 2.5 gallon i think and the meter when up to half a tank.. and i be getting about 100-130 miles for that amount of gas.. my car be goin crazy on the gasmilage from time to time

karlo_ep3

AEM CAI & DC Header only and I get around 250 miles. This is mixed city and highway with city at 50%. 280 miles 90% highway. I noticed that if I drive below 4000rpm I get better mileage. Go beyond 4000 it's gargle time! Though its hard not to go above 80 mph (approx 4000 rpm) on the highway to vegas. Maybe a sixth gear might help. :D

Gas gauges are extremenly inacurate. The best way to calculated mpg is by using specialized equipement that measures the air and gas flow and the speed. The next best is to fill up until the pump shuts off, do not top off. reset trip meter. drive until either the light comes on or hit "E". Go back to the same station same pump at the same time of day and weather conditions. Fill up until pump shuts off. Record miles and gas needed. Divide miles by the gallons. Repeat 3 times and average. The longer you drive with an empty tank the more accurate the measurement will be. But do not let the gas tank go dry. Gas is used as lubricant for the gas pump. Letting it go dry will ruin the pump.
I noticed better gas mileage now that I am at 7000 miles than when new. I am actually getting close to the EPA estimated 30 mpg. I am not granny shifting, drive at 80-70-90 mph (I drive from CT to NJ via NY).

Wow! That's a friggin drive from CT to NJ everyday?!
I've got intake and lowered w/ 16" wheels. Got over 10,000 miles on mine city/highway. Mileage is better than before. Average 260-280.

Noticed that I also get better mileage with certain gas. Does it matter what octane though? I wonder...
Went to and from Boston from NJ this weekend a total of 490 miles (both ways) with avg. of 75/80 (rain + traffic). Mileage was great with Exxon 87 octane.

I had a greddy turbo kit on my old 00 civic ex.. I didnt notice any loss in MPG. Your car must be running really rich. I suggest a dyno tune. Turbo shouldnt hurt your gas that much.. Then again u might just be NAILing it everytime u go thru the gears.. who knows how ya drive ;P.. I would drive it like it was stolen if i had turbo again.. sigh....

how do you like it?
any problems besides mpg
