14.8 at the track today

subliminal si and I went to the track today. i used all his stuff on my car (his is in the shop) and i had - aem cai, hks exhaust, comptech header, s-afc, and some drags that his dad had

edit:: Total list of mods are also eibach springs and shortshifter with rear head rests and hatch cover taken out. no spare, jack, and empty glove box.

exuse me if i sound like an idiot but how do you start off the line when you are going for the quickest time?
if i throttle up and dump the clutch it just spins the tires..but when i feather off until i have traction then lay on the throttle full it still goes nowhere quickly
how exactly do you start off when racing at the track

i didnt really have alot of traction problems because of the slicks, but i went a couple times. the best i found was to rev till abotu 4k and smoothly release the clutch in about .5 seconds all the way.

i think what helped most was that i tried to remain calm, cuz the first 2 times i went i was getting liek 15.5-15.6 and i grinded 3rd gear twice, and then i started to cool off and they went down to 15.3 or so and then 15.1 and so on.

THe 60' time really impresses me. The slicks have to make a major difference compared to regular tires. And someone tell me if the S-AFC is actually helpful or should I wait until my supercharger. I'm just curious how much difference it can make.

Have to say I agree. I dont doubt that 14s are possible on a car with those mods on slicks, but 97 MPH is WAY high. Slicks dont miraculously add power, and horsepower is what makes MPH. More often than not, you'll actually lose a couple MPH with slicks because of the parasitic drag on the top end. It's a worthwhile trade-off because of the extra traction though. I'd have to see some video or something to buy it...

well we can call bs all day, but he did supply a slip. I hit a trap of 91mph with just a header and short ram back in the winter, so who knows??? 6mph more from adding a cat back, cai, apexi s-afc and slicks...maybe, ya never know :o

I see us call bs a lot on things like this, even when the person post a slip, does it take a vid clip, or would that not be good enough...do we have to be there?

1. first time at the track on slicks, most people usually do worse than on street tires. ask anyone who races. they're a serious driving style adjustment!

I dunno which comptech header he was using but I suppose with the full race one and all the other add-ons plus some good S-AFC tuning with high octane gas and REALLY good air pressure and low humidity and drag slicks and god turning into a monkey that rides on your back then humping you, it's possible.

So I dunno if I'd call BS on this or not...

Its kinda like an adjustable hondata, but its not a ECU replacement, so much as a signal tweaker.

can you tell us what the settings were on the afc? it is not that i don't believe you or anything like that. i just think that alot of people might want to see the settings and recreate them. some of us are lazy and too poor to tune on the dyno, so can you share the settings please? and if you don't know how to work the thing or whatever can you ask subliminal's brother what settings he used?

yea and what size slicks to get that 1.80 60'?

ps: "typically" when you add slicks and decrease your 60' by THAT much ( 1/2 a second!) you will have a much better E.T. *BUT* your trap speed will stay THE SAME or even DROP sometimes, unless of course you're running much shorter slicks. No way are you gonna pick up almost 10mph!
