Remove the frame or not? Gotta stay legal and the plate has to stay in front of the bumper. No lisence plate on windshield. Anyone have there lisence plate hanging on the front lower grill area?

What do you guys think about this? The top of the plate is sticking out like "\" and covering alittle of the bumper.

Or like this, with the bottom of the plate hanging below the bumper, like "/"

Or finally, don't do jack and leave it the way it came from the dealer and stick with the frame?

Took my front plate and frame off and relocated it to the trunk of my car. Till I get pulled over for it I will ride this way. I see to many cars with airbrushed names and shit in place of the front plate, so why not just take it off..

are you asking us if you should remove your plate? if you want to stay legal then leave it on. i took mine off. there are alot of cars in cali that do not have their front plate on. you can be one of them if you want to.

So where you put your plate at? I would like for it to stay in the front so I don't get fined for $100 for missing plate.

I have Mine on the Front The it came from the Dealer, I am Often tempted to take it off, However I live in the City And do alot of Paralell(SP?) Parking, People Bang into my car everyday, And the front has no bumper rash. so I think the plate helps from Getting my bumper scratched.

I have been tempted the put a row of sheet metal though the back sticing out the front. (like the nail Bat)

Back into me now, buddy

Yes, true, you wont get any bumper to bumper rash/stratch, but if they back into you frame then the frame will give you a mark on your bumper. I tooked mine off because of so. Some num nut backed into my car, very lighty. I was like wtf, and I looked at my bumper and it was cool, so I didn't care. When I removed my frame there is a mark made from the frame. It's not coming off. Either way, you'll get something

I cut mine in half and used the lower holes on the holder to mount the plate.

seriosuly though, if you can get away with it in your city/town...go for it. I personally think the plates take away from the natural beauty of the si..lol

I was #*$&(*& mad when i got a ticket for not mounting plates in the front...but it wasn't because of a cop...it was a parking cop!! BAH i didn't think they could give tickets like that...how wrong i was...i don't care anymore...i'm gonna leave it on! oh to stay on topic, i like B better. have fun

Got my car in september 02, first thing to come off my car.:D

I got ticketed $35 also by a fucking meter maid (because my meter was expired, so he made it a combo:( )
Cops that are passing by usually don't give a shit tho..;) I've seen soooo many cars around with no front plate.

Thinking of fabricating a mount so I can slide it on the driver's side, don't wanna block the condensor/radiator

ya kno...you DON'T need to have a front license plate in california...it's only required if you registered 2 licence plates. i only registered one, so it's legal for me to roll around with only a license plate in the rear, nothing up front. cops have pulled me over for countless reasons, but not having a front license plate was never one of them (even though they DO ask about it). and for those who kno the bay area well, i'm in the milpitas, fremont, santa clara, cupertino, and saratoga areas most of the time...for those who don't kno...the cops just HATE hondas and diamond stars around here...every car i see pulled over is a honda...and they do it JUST BECAUSE...and they're willing to find ANY reason to write us tickets...

BTW...i kno this is off topic, but just to inform you peoplez...the legal decibal limit in california was raised from some low number (76 dbs?) to 96 dbs not so long ago...so kiss them fix-it tickets for too loud of an exhaust good-bye...unless your exhaust is just annoying!! don't kno bout you, but my exhaust is fairly loud, but because it's a very low tone, cops have been complimenting the sound lately!!!

yes...i've done my research really well...in fact, i keep a copy of the motor vehicular lawbook in my glove, with pages marked for easy finding in case a cop doesn't think i know what i'm talkin about...
open book...point...(phat smile) and jus say "seeeeeeeee???"

wow dofu...thanks for the great info...but how do you only register 1 plate? is it too late for us 2 platers? lol. i would like to make it as legal as possible

We're required to have two plates here in D.C., so I wasn't sure what to do about the front. I hate seeing cars with a plate laying on the dashboard, and most options for revising the front location just don't have the same elegance I was hoping for.

One of the local EP guys "Euro'd" his, folding back the top & bottom edges and zip-tying the plate to the grille below the bumper lip.

Before doing it myself, I asked a neighborhood meter maid about the mod. She said, "As long as I can clearly see all the numbers and letters, and they match the whole, intact plate in the back, then it's fine."

So, that evening, it was done, and it looks like this --

try and get a shot closer and give some more detail on how you did this - kinda like a "how-to". Looks like a good idea! :)

I really like it -- I wish I came up with the idea.

What I used:
- Heavy duty zip ties
- Clippers
- Sharp-edged curb (to fold the plate)

What I did:

Take the plate by itself and fold back the top & bottom edges, making the crease about 1 to 2 inches from the edge. You should be folding back the mounting holes, state lettering, motto, etc. The D.C. plates have a red line between the script across the top & bottom and the license numbers, which makes it easy to fold evenly.

You should have a plate that's about as tall as a European plate, showing only the tag numbers for your car. The mounting holes should be accessible in back.

Take four zip ties, one for each hole, and thread them through the plate's holes. Hold the plate up to the grille, and use the zip ties to secure the plate to the horizontal & vertical parts of the grille.

Trim off the excess zip tie material, if preferred.

Now enjoy your skinny, free-floating license plate. I do!

*****watch this space for a pic or three tomorrow, rain or shine*****

The other end, with a little better lighting of the zip ties. Could be cleaner, but it was done in a hurry in the parking lot at Target at night...

After reading everyones opinion I think I'll keep what I got, but with alittle twist. My plate is just hanging from the the bumper grill and purrrty flimsy.
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid64/p2bb406f83fbbb94015aed0a016722dc4/fbfe2d77.jpg

After seeing Suk02Si and ep88 on what they did. I decided to bite off there idea. I had no idea what Suk02Si said about cutting this and that and use the lower part for mount. I just use the stock mount and flipped it upside down and shoved it into the grill and tied it down. CABLE TIE is my BEST FRIEND. It holds up pretty good, giving it a clean look.

See the darkened part of the plate holder on the attached pic? I cut that off and mounted it normally. On the holder I used the two lower holes to mount the plate.

I for one think I should invent a durable, but super-soft foam based frame...

That way it'll be bumpertastic =P And perhaps I should push for a soft foamy plastic type plate(like teslin based). Hmmm, yeah, why the hell do we still have sharp sheets of steel for license plates anyway? They really can be dangerious in a crash I think when they go flying.

Any side pics of what you done? Just wanted to see and compare. I like what I've done because if I will be selling the car in the future, at least everything I did is still can be undone without the cost of buying another holder.

double sided tape...get a strong one, and as long as you let it set good, it'll hold for a very, very long time
