I have a Pioneer 10" TS-W254C Sub and I want to buy an amp for only the sub. What wattage AMP do I need to push it so it sounds good?

Yeah, it'll work fine. It won't blow out the windows, but it'll be plenty loud. How much power do you have going to the other speakers?

just using the head unit which has that internal amp. it sounds pretty clear and loud, just need to do something about the tweeters. i'm thinking i might ditch the speakers i have now and get components up front.

Going back to components in front would be a good thing. I've been leaning towards Infinity for my mains -- I should go shopping around during my day off on Monday and listen to some.

You could power your front speakers with that amp at the same time as the sub, too. Check this thread (http://www.ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14736) .

FINALLY bought an amp and setup my sub today. had a lot of trouble as i never wired a sub to an amp. figuring out the channels was a bitch. wiring the amp was a piece of cake though, i bought the Pioneer GM-X374 4ch 400wt AMP and hooked it up. it works, but i'm not quite sure how to bridge it. it sounds good but i'm totally lost on bridging. can someone help?

Bridging's easy --

With the amp you've got, say that you're running each of the front speakers off of the 1 and 2 channels of the amp.

To bridge the sub across the other two channels, connect the sub+ to ch3+, and sub- to ch4-.

Yup, it's really that simple. I had to ask, "What, that's it?" when it was first described to me.

And, no, there won't be anything connected to ch3- and ch4+.

how do i run all 4 speakers and a sub? or isn't that possible?

Several ways --

Front speakers & sub to the amp as described above, and rear speakers powered by the head unit's rear speaker outputs;

Front and rear speakers powered by the amp, and bridge the sub across either the front or rear channels;

Or, if you had been going with the 2-channel amp you described earlier, you could have run the fronts & sub off that amp, and the rears off the head. But, that's obsolete advice.

To have the most tonal flexbility in your setup, I'd run the fronts & sub by the amp, and the rears from the head. If I remember right, you said that the head has sub preouts, and by using a dedicated outboard amplifier section, you'll have proper control over your sub's output.

If you run all 5 speakers (front left & right, rear left & right, and sub) off the amp, you'll lose some head unit control over each speaker, and the power distribution won't be as consistent. It would sound OK, but since you've got enough amplifier channels among the amp & head to power each speaker channel separately, I'd say to take advantage of them.
