I went out and got a really good bargain on these 17" rims.
they weigh 18lbs, lighter than stock (enkei 5+) and slapped on some 225/45/17s - pirelli P7000's

Have to say I love the ride and feel. I thought that they
would be alot more of a challenge on the drive. They are
very smooth and don't seem to have lost much in the power/launch
department. They definitely have alot more traction than the stockies. I was expecting some trammiling, but find they are
better than stock, go figure.

Will take some pics of them next week, when the drop is done right.

I got 17" Racing Hart S7's (16 lb) on 215/45/17 tires. Last time I ran my car, I ran totally shitty times. I only got two runs in, but bone stock I ran 15.6, and my second run now after i/e motormounts was 15.9 Its weird...

3 lb's lighter per wheel. The overall heights of the wheels with tires is not much with the 17" rims with 45 series tires. I wouldn't think it was my wheel setup that is slowing me down that much. It was fairly hot that day...

So far I can't explain it, I'm going to go run it again after the borla header is on, and if I dont get low 15's in the 1/4 --- I'll try some 15" wheels.

The answer to your probelm is probably rotating mass and the position of the weight in the wheel. Your new 17s might be lighter overall, but the weight is further away from the center of the wheel making it's effect greater.

Picture an ice skater spinning with her arms out, she goes around rather slowly. As she pulls her arms in her speed increases because she isn't moving that weight as far. The energy hasn't changed, and her weight hasn't changed, only the position of the weight.

Most dragsters use a rather small wheel with larger rubber for this reason, and of course the extra traction they can get from running that larger rubber at lower pressures.

Yeah that makes sense. Thanks. I did not think it would make that much of a difference...I'll give it another shot when I get my header on, and hopefully the weather will be cooler, like the time I ran the 15.6 stock....

looks like a nice sidewall cushion. I'm not surprised the ride is smooth and it eats up some wheel-well space too
I like your wheels - nice style

That would look sweet too, I am gonna go with broze rims in the end
but could not pass up the price on these...all together was less
than 800 US for everything.:D

Only downfall with them is that I need a larger break kit to fill
the interior of the rims, they look really cool at speed.;)

hideously cheap is what I was going for, thanks! They work nicely, and I have no complaints with the ride. I spent a fraction of
the true cost. They will do very well in the auto-x and the tires are what keeps my ride planted. No worries here. Like I said I am
just trying them out.:o

When I see the rim without the car... I think "Bling-Bling"...

However, when they are actually on the car, (especially) with the drop... THEY LOOK GOOD!

They don't look very "curb-friendly" though!:o
