My car is done! There are a few things that have to be tweaked, but other than that, it's great!

So far, it's just the stage I that I know of. When they install and tune the car, they add in plugs and misc. I'll find out EVERYTHING that's on there beside the stage I kit.

Steve, congrats man...

I have a dumb question- how is the drivability? I know it's fast as balls, but does it still idle well, and handle close enough to stock to remain a daily driver? The only experience I have had with a turbo kit was riding in a custom turboed civic that didn't quite seem to turn out as planned.... so any info or opinions would be great.:)

ssvr6

It's idles a little rough, but there's a little bit of tweaking that needs to be done. I'm almost positive that I'll have to get that "J Dampner" as well.

Congrats Steve, What exhaust are you using?
I was thinking that in the near future I would like to go turbo.I noticed that with "NOS" the car runs good but I cant hang with other cars top end. The only thing is that I would like to get a K20A2 or if posible Type r motor and then put the turbo kit.

I could, but for now, I'm good. (The power will probably keep climbing to 8500.)

The power is fine so far for the tires, but the clutch is shitting itself if I get too hard on it in first gear. I haven't tried a launch from a dead stop. I don't want to break anything...yet.

I have no cat. I'm running 2.5" to my 2.25" midpipe and I'm running the stock muffler. I'd say go with the K20A2 or A3 with boost. In fact, I'm thinking the A3 will be MORE powerful in the long run compared to the 2. (Or the K24 from the TSX.)

I'm calling them today to install mine next month and I'm impressed by the numbers, but what do you mean when you say you have some tweeking to do? Can you work out the bugs with the afc, or is it more than that? Anywho I was allready stoked and now I'm just over anxious, it looks great and I'm sure you'll have a blast-boost. Well it's 6:30 am and the clock is ticking, time to schedule this install!!!

ssvr6

Yeah, I have to tweak the VAFC. I went back to the shop yesterday (I had thrown a rich fuel CEL) and we tuned up the narrow rpm bands making sure that there wasn't too much fuel being sent (basically just trial and error and watching the Air/Fuel gauge).

BTW- for those that asked, the plugs are NGK VW Raceline or Race Series. That's all the info that they had, no part number.

How big is the turbo? 18g like the one on the type S kit? And also, how's the lag? Looks like some goddamn impressive #s... you need to go srt-4 stompin' some time. They've been posting similar numbers to your car except the HP and tq #s are switched around...and since tq is a function of HP you should easily win :)

Rueda del Queso
06-17-2003, 05:00 PM
Otherway around, hp is a function of torque. Torque is a measuremnt of the rotational force provided by the engine. On dyno's this is done at the tire. Horsepower is a measure of the amount of work, in this case the torque, done in a given time period, in this case a second.

That sucks that you have to replace the clutch already. I'm just interested in long term reliability...

95 GSR
06-17-2003, 05:42 PM
its probably cuz its a stock clutch.... im sure a ACT or any other aftermarket proformance clutchs will not go that quick...

Holy shit that sucked for me lol. I thought the formula for horsepower was....tq X rpm divided by 5250 or something? Eeeyea i'mma stop now...actually can u send me a pm? I'm interested :)

how's the turbo lag? does it take long to spool? i've never owned a turbo before so i see there's a sharp rise in torque in the late 3k rpms. i guess a lighter flywheel would be in order to complement the clutch

I don't have to replace the clutch, but if I want to race more competively at the track, I'll need at least a ClutchMasters Stage 4.

Lightened flywheel would take me out of the boost "range" really quickly. Not normally a good thing. I know that the Cybernation RSX-S is running it, but I'm happy with the spool up time. The lag is minimal IMO.

I'd stay away from clutchmasters if I were you, not sure if you've experience them, but I had their stage 2 and the engaged too damn quick. There was no control, just on or off. Terrible clutch. I had the pressure plate also. This was on my 97 EX I had. I hear ACT is the best out there..so far.

will the black magic thing they use fool the ecu permanently? or do you have to reboot the ecu periodically?

ssvr6
06-19-2003, 12:57 PM
Well, you don't "reboot" per say. Since I'm still working on a good air/fuel mix, I've thrown a CEL from richness. I just yank a fuse, wait a few seconds, put it back and the ECU resets itself.

Will it happen all of the time? No.

I gotta say these numbers are really making me reconsider FI when my warranty is out.....I mean I could have all the power I'd ever need at 5-7lbs of boost and still see good reliability past 100,000 right? Awesome job, Steve (and cybernation)!
