OK i have finally decided on a car(Only took me a year to pick one.), I have test driven a EP, Mazdaspeed, and a WRX. Well the Mazdaspeed the people on the MSProtege site were blowing engines due to no internals done to the engine, WRX well there isnt a brand new one advailable(03 model)(and i really dont want a used car), so down to the EP.

The only thing that kinda has a twist in it is the shifter. Does it take a while to learn? and how long did it take you?

I have been driving a stick for almost a year now but on a 99 Mitz eclipse, and i have gotten really good.

Please post you opinions on this subject. THANKS!!:D

imo, its more comfortable. my 93 civic had a short shifter and when i bought my ep and would drive both, i felt more comfortable with it higher...its closer to the steering wheel, alot less effort in shifting. the 93 seemed awkward to drive after driving the ep for a couple days.

the shifter was the one thing that kept me from almost buying the ep, but i hadnt even driven it yet. i figured i would at least try, no matter now uncomfortable it looked. needless to say, i love it.

Well, I learned stick on the EP, and now, I can't imagine driving a stick shift buried on the floor.... I drove a friends 1.8T and I kept "losing" the shifter since I got used to it being RIGHT THERE by the wheel.

I love the shifter. Most people ask what's up with my shifter. I find it quite confortable. It's much easier to drive with.

Of course this is my opinion.

The EP has got to have one of the sweetest shifters I have ever used!

It only takes about a day to get used to it, after that, you will see cars with shifters on the console as "old school".

it took me .23 seconds to get used to it. you should be able to do it in about the same time. it takes slower people about a day to get it down.

its alot easier to run through the gears with the shifter up high...

On long rides the shifter really sucks cause your arm gets tired, they should atleast made a arm rest. Also it seems that everyone on this forum has the "notchy feeling" inbetween shifts. Besides that its like driving any other 5spd.

Hey, I'm selling my car to buy a house, wanna buy it?

Less than 10,000 miles, already has tinted windows, a remote pager alarm, and 3M bug gaurd (really helps because these car's paint chips easily).

It's in excellent shape, nothing wrong with it--honest. I just have to put my priorities in order, and owning a home comes before a nice car. I can't afford both. I don't thrash it, and I've ALREADY had the 10K service performed; this car is as good as new. PM me if you're interested.

Thanks,

-nate

I used to have a 98 civic and the EP is alot better for me to shift,
especialy when it comes down to power shifting.

I get asked this almost every day. Yes it's comfortable, more so than you'd think. Takes all of 10 minutes before it feels like second nature.

I agree w/ everyone here.....It looked wierd at first, but the second I grabbed the stick, it felt more natural than any other stick Ive ever driven. Zero learning curve....I drove a friend's new Accord the other day, and I kept grabbing at the dash trying to find the stick....she kept laughing at me....
