Convert Shift Boot to JDM Type R?

The only difference I see btw our shift boot and the JDM one is the chrome ring on top. Am I right?

Since the JDM version costs $50 wouldn't it be wiser if you can just replace the chrome ring? Whats the type of ring called for the JDM version? Maybe we can get it at Home Depot or something.

But is it possible to look similar to the JDM version. Just remove the current chrome ring and replace it with a cap?
