had the pleasure of driving a new accord 6 speed for the weekend

my dad works for honda, and he brought home a new 6 speed accord this past weekend for the englishtown meet(which ended up being no meet at all). anyway, all I can say is damn......that thing is fast as hell. you can get to 80 in second. it is easily a mid-low 14 second car, and I wouldn't doubt better times. I think at the end of the year the EP is getting traded in for one. just thought I'd share my little fun with everyone. if anyone is interested in one and they live in NJ come see my dad for a test drive. also, it had the factory body kit/spoiler/fog light package, looked as good as it drove.

80 in second on the 6-speed? I don't think so... you can get well into the 60s, but not 80.

also, I would wait another year for them to get the tranny problems sorted out. That's really been the only problem with those cars. Once the tranny issues are addressed it'll be a very nice car even though edmunds review ripped it a new one...

I can't find numbers on the 6-speed manual but could on the 5-speed auto.

Really, no flames... I just don't understand. Someone explain how the 5-speed at 2.56 gearing can go 39 in first and at 1.55 gearing can go 65 in second but the 6-speed can go 80 geared the way it is? The way I read it the 6-speed shouldn't be able to go 80 until somewhere in 3rd gear.

Inquiring minds want to know...Can you explain how a 5-speed's 2nd gear can only go 65, but a 6-speed's second gear can go to 80mph?

i dont know man, that doesnt seem right. my dad owns one, i drive it almost daily, you can get to about 63 in second and thats about tops. maybe that car was a freak of nature or something b/c stock ones definetly cant do 80 in second.

I have no reason to lie, all I know is what I saw. bottom line the car is quick as hell for a bigger car, and I know I wouldn't mind owning one. No speedometer is off by nearly 20 mph.

If that Accord's 2nd really is tall enough to hit 80, it's as tall as 3rd in the EP -- and that's no fun to shift into from 1st gear.

Solid proof comes from Honda's own specifications. Tell me that they lied about the gearing in the car.

Go drive it like you said you will, and give proof -- either that you really can hit 80 in 2nd gear, or that you misread the speedometer.

Owning up to a goof will get you more respect than being stubborn about it.
