Correct me if I'm wrong but the sport version of civics before 1984 were called "civic S" then fuel injection was introduced (so long carbs) and so it was only proper to add the "i" ... civic Si

Either "Sport Idition" or "Special Idition" ;) I agree with the votes for Sport Inject ion/ed.... Heard that before from some people...

um yea... "Idition" is not a word. Edition is! ;)

Sport Injected? that sounds weird to me. How do you inject sport anyways?

My guess is Sport Inspired

Id say it originally meant injected back in the 80's but now it means inspired.
There is a post with like a hundred smartass things Si could stand for. its worth a read.

Freud said that sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
In other words, it's not that complicated. "Sports injected" simply means that it is the "sports" model and it is injected (fuel injected).

Now that I have cleared this up, you can go on to look for deeper meanings to other initials like SLK, Z06, RS, SRT, WRX etc.

fyi - edmunds.com (http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/generations/articles/68272/article.html) has a pretty good history of the civic... it doesn't explain the si name, but it looks pretty complete otherwise.

It is Sport Injected, ans SiR means Sport Injected Race, I read it in an old SCC a while ago. To me it means, Sexiest Import :D

I know I asked this question a while ago and I was told sports injected. Then I did find this out for sure. My 88 prelude the FI model is the SI while the Carb is the S.
