I'm looking for the best 12" woofers. I'm not talking about a $1000.00 woofer but anything under 200.00. Also I'm either going to get 2 of them and put them in a bandpass box or 1 really good one. Thanks

Get 2 Alpine SWR-1221D Type R subs in a sealed box, and run it off an Alpine MRD-M500 amplifier (this is the best monoblock for the money hands down, and even better than a lot of much higher end amps as well). You will not believe your ears.
For the money you can't beat these subs or the Alpine Monoblock. I can assure you that you will be pleased.
I do not suggest getting a ported or bandpass box if you are looking for clarity and bass extension.

2 Alpine subs for like $210

Alpine amp for $270 (it's birth certificate will say over 600watts rms @2ohms)

A bandpass box will basically double the loudness of the bass due to the design of the box, but at the expense of sound quality. It is also physically larger than a standard sealed or ported enclosure because two chambers are required. If you want one 12" to sound like two, bandpass is the way to go, as long as a minor decrease in sound quality doesn't bother you.

Ported = louder at it's tuning frequency than a sealed box, high chance of mechanical failure under port tuning frequency (meaning you need a subsonic filter or your subs are gonna blow) , Delayed sound reproduction due to vented design, very high chance of port noise at certain frequencies and not the greatest frequency response. (also bigger than sealed box and harder to build)

Bandpass = Can be quite loud at tuning frequency, higher chance of mechanical failure due to the extreme pressures created inside the enclosure, delayed sound reproduction due to the design limitations (all sound waves travel through ports, being slowed down), very high port noise (all sound coming from port(s)), Very Bulky, very difficult to build right and almost impossible to find the right one for the sub you have (unless you build one specifically for your woofer......which you have to do or it will sound like shit).

Sealed = Your best bet for cleanest sound reproduction, higher powerhandling, extended bass response, smaller size, Very smooth response curve providing the best SQ, much easier to build and forgiving for minor errors.

I'm sorry it's very late and i'm having trouble staying awake, if I made any stupid mistakes. But for the most part you get the idea.
