View Full Version : Shortening the clutch pedal travel

Can this be done? It seems that I'm pressing it in a good distance before it starts to engage. If I could shorten it by 50%, that would be PERFECT.

are you serious??? my clutch is short.. everyone who drives it says so so too... my friends with itr's, si's, audi, and eclipses, that drove my car, say its short... they stall :)

I know you can do this on older cars with Cable clutches. I'm not sure about our cars. I think you can adjust it under the air box. I remember seeing some cables there. One of them should be for the clutch. Then again I might be wrong

It should be possible, I just need to find out where to do it. It only needs to be shortened about 25% or so.....maybe less.

I need a shorter throw more than shorter clutch cable travel. But that would be nice too.

Here's why it's bad for me. I'm trying to race the car and I can't find the "sweet spot" (where the pedal actually engages) with ease. So the shift is taking too long or I'll grind. (This is with me trying to clutch as quickly as possible instead of pressing it all the way down and letting it up.)

I'm sure I can shorten it thus giving me a better track time and better car to drive.

Does anyone know of a full on technical site or book with engine, transmission, suspension, etc...information? I really want to work on my car and I'm not sure where to start.

I was told this can't be done unless you buy an aftermarket clutch. The clutches on the newer cars can't be adjusted. You have to buy an aftermarket racing clutch that engages sooner.

Why is that? Is it's hyrdualic or cable? (I'm guessing hydraulic.) It should be possible.

I'm not sure of the reasoning, this is just what I was told. They could have just been blowing smoke up my @$$ though. :D
