i just got back from pep boy and bout 5w30 motor oil instead of 5w20. i didn't catch my oversight until i had already tipped the bottle and about 3-4 ounces of oil got in there (not that much at all). is this gonna fug up my engine? i'm kinda scared. oh, and on the way home i owned a blue crx with a gsr swap. oh, and i'm getting an oil change on friday anyway.

No, it's not bad. I use 5w30 Mobil1 oil anyways.

a lot of use use 5w-30, 10w-30 and 0w-30 on a regular basis, in fact I'm willing to bet it might be a better way to go if you like driving hard on a regular basis.

thanks for the help guys i guess it wasn't that big of a deal after all. but, if i use a heavier oil, won't that eat up some of my horsepower? And using a lighter oil would, in turn, free some up, right?

the difference is so small it would be almost impossible to feel, and hard to even measure. You're talking about a fraction of one percent in hp and mileage if anything.

Look at what top race cars use. A majority of them run mobile1. There is a reason.
p.s. get the green cap;)

Don't feel bad, on my last oil change The guys at Quik Kar fucked up and put 20/50 Castrol syntec in my car! I've got a thousand miles to go till I change it.

or you could change it right now... castrol sytec SUCKS ASS!

fkagti, you did no damage to your car and like JSIR said, there is no way you'd feel a difference and your car will 'act' exactly the same with either oil.

heh the place i alst took my car to put on too small of an oil filter and around 3100 miles the thing decided to start leaking oil so i got oil all over the back and under my car, but the guy who finally could get the small one off put in 10w-30 and it is running fine but i will probably get it switched back to normal again

I'm on Mobil 1 5w-30 synthetic and was able to achieve 31 mpg (409 miles) on my last tank of gas! granted it was a road trip.

your manual states that if you dont have access to 5w20 you can use 5w30 but to use 5w20 next time....i know alot of ppl that use other oil than whats specified.......1 quart isnt gonna do anything...you will be fine.
