I'm sure this has already been brought up but I couldn't find this question anywhere. Does anyone know the weight of the 15" factory wheels on our cars? With or without tires would be cool. I'm looking at some wheels that are 20lbs (17") but I don't want to make the car too much heavier.

I always heard the wheels themselves were 19 lbs. Who knows about tires, but they look like fat turds.

I'd put em at around 18 to 19 lbs

Thanks! I guess the 20lbs won't be to bad then. I'd like to go lighter but I like these wheels. Good deal too...

That's probably with tires.

ehh actually the cheap scale for home actually works good over 50lbs.. u should actually weight urself and the weight it with the rims, so is accurate, coz i try it my aftermarket rims was 13.5lbs then i put it on the scale, it weights only 10lbs, i try to weight my self w/ and w/out the rims, my rims really weight 13.5lbs, hopes that helps:angel:

If you weigh yourself and then weigh yourself holding the wheel you will double the error of the scale. For example, if your scale is off by 1/2 pound (light) your weight with the wheel will be off by 1 pound. If you weigh 170 but your scale says 169.5 and your wheel weighs 15 pounds but the scale says 14.5 you end up with 184 you would think the wheel weighs 14 pounds. Not the best way to do it but you can get a pretty close.

Dude, I wasn't questioning the weight of your wheels only the method used to weigh them. BTW, if you knew how much they weighed why did you weigh them?

ok ? about wheel weights. The more the Rim/Tire weights doesnt affect the speed? i know on my saturn i put OZ Fidapallidy(very old)16' rims and the speed dropped 5mph. so if iwas doin 35 on my speedo then my actual speed was 30mph.

Can that be fixed? by ajusting the speedo or what>:(

Then you had a smaller overall diameter wheel/tire than stock. The wheels were turning more rpm's than b4.

This is a factor of the overall diameter of the wheel+tire combo being different from stock.

Checkout the calculator at http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html which gives you the speedo error if the diameter is different.

A heavier combo will slow down acceleration to a degree though.

ok that site confued me..maybe its because i am madly sick, and on meds...but i am confused...can it be fixed or if u go with aftermarket rims lets say 16's or 17's can u get the speedo matched or will it forever be off? :o :(

When you go with larger rims, then you have to get a lower profile (less sidewall) tire if you don't want to screw up what the speedo shows.

The larger rim with a lower profile tire will be close or equal in diameter to the stock rim and tire. So, the website can help you figure out what size tire should be used with a larger rim to match stock diameter.
