View Full Version : Mugen lip troubles

I was test fitting the Mugen lip and ran into a small problem:(

The brake duct on the lip is about 6-7" deep. In order for it to fit properly the bumper has to be modded. The duct is about 5" round and 7" deep.

I was thinking about shaving the duct where it goes into the bumper, but then when the lip is mounted the bumper would be seen, if my car was black I might've been able to get away with it.

So my options are as follows:
-Keep the stock CTR lip
-Hack away at the precious JDM bumper to make the Mugen lip fit
-Shave the lip even though the bumper is visible through the duct

Is this a real Mugen lip, or a replica? I just ordered my lip today from King. I am definately canceling the order if this is the case. I'm pissed.

I've thought about it some more, and there are some cool things you could do. If you have a short ram, you could run some plumbing to the filter and get some colder air to it. You could cut holes out of the black plastic in the fender wells and run a hose between the lip's holes and the holes in the fender to make a bake duct similar to the RSX kit. I spent a lot of time debating the CTR lip or the Mugen lip. Price vs. material they're made of. Cutting the holes in the bumper wouldn't be too hard, and wouldn't need to be too accurate because the lip will cover up any imperfections. But, the Mugen lip is made of fiberglass reinforced plastic, meaning it could break a lot easier than the CTR lip. So, if you installed the Mugen lip and later down the road it cracked, you would'nt be able to install the CTR lip because of the big holes in the bumper.

Actually the CTR lip can cover up the holes made by the Mugen lip. So just another option for you to think about.;)

Dude just cut your bumper, its not like it hasn't already been hacked up anyway. You'll be happy with your mugen lip on and your reflectors filled.

I just got off the phone with King. They cancelled my order, no problems. The guy was trying to talk me into buying it, though. He said, "Most guys just cut the holes because the bumper covers are so cheap. They just buy new bumpers." I'd like to know their source of JDM bumpers. But, I guess a $500 bumper is cheap to those Mugen guys.

How much would it cost for u to paint and mount the lip????

Suk02Si
09-02-2003, 02:53 PM
Most likely $200-$400. I already have the Type R lip and am happy with it, that $400 can go towards my suspension or anything performance oriented. I just got a new set of tires all around and will be strapped for cash for a while.

Suk02si, hey i was wondering how did you mount your license plate on the jdm bumper?? did you take the brackets off the stock bumper???

The JDM bumper has holes for a plate, they're just a little further apart than our USDM plates:D I have a JDM plate so it fits perfect ;)

JaYdEeEm
09-07-2003, 01:57 PM
ohh i see...so i can just put the license plate right on by screwing it into the hole?? that sucks how i can't use the brackets off the usdm bumper.

I snagged the front bumper/lip from a friend. The side I got from Showstoppes USA, give 'em a call for exact pricing (I think they're 550 shipped).
