Does anyone know why hondas website says the civic Si is a 2.3 L? Please tell me this isn't some sort of change for 03. Also it has MSRP at 19000 now.

Actually, I'll bet there is room in the new 2-liter block for bigger cylinder liners -- one of these days, there may be a 2.2 liter motor. (Similar to the way the Accord engine is up to 2.4 liters for 2003.) The downside, of course, is that the bigger the pistons, the more they weigh. Something's got to give and invariably it's engine speed; the max RPM comes down.

On the site it states 2.0L everywhere - or 1998cc. Except when you try and build a car. Then, it says that you get a 2.3L motor for the 2002 model. Weird.
And, to my knowledge, the vehicles' MSRP has always been $19,000.

nope... 2.0L 1998cc for Type-R also.
Check it out if you'd like.

The MSRP is $19000 for the Si. Check out Edmunds.com. It's not what most are paying, but that's the MSRP.

MSRP for my car was $19450.00. I'd love to see a big-bore kit for our cars; it would make our good torque characteristics even better. And if you buy a quality forged piston weight should not be too much of an issue. Factory pistons I can see being pretty heavy, though.

David K.,
Are you sure that you're MSRP wasn't $19,000 and the Delivery was $450?

My MSRP was 19450 also not including the destination charge. I payed pretty much what edmunds said I would with a few extra goodies thrown in (alarm, mats etc,)

My MSRP was $19,450.00, But the dealer was charging 20,450.00 for the SI. I should have went to another state to buy my car.

This must be a typo (or who knows what) but I happened upon honda.com's new Si web site and low and behold they state that the 2002 Civic Si has a 2.3 Liter SOHC engine. This is the U.S. version of the honda web site.

You can access the car information here:

http://www.hondacars.com/tools/customize/Step7.asp?MODEL=EP3352EW&MODELNAME=CIVIC%20HB%203DR%20SI&DIVISION=A&SERIESNAME=Civic%20Hatchback&SERIESID=26&YEAR=2002&VIEW=34FRONT&MGROUPID=26&MODELYEAR=2002&MODELID=EP3352EW&STEP=7&FUNCTION=configurator&ECOLOR=B-92P&ICOLOR=BK&SELECTED=&INCLUDED=&REQUIRED=

Oddly enough if you click the specification page (adobe acrobat required) it then lists the correct engine 2.0 Liter DOHC i-Vtec.

I merged the post above this one with the original post.

The CR-V K motor is 2.4L. Same 160 horsepower, but 162 lbs/ft of torque. The CR-V block is 17mm taller then the Si/SiR motor, so it'd be interesting to see if it'll clear the hood... That'd make for a neat torquey street machine :)

How about the new Accord 4 cylinder? Would that fit, what type of hp numbers?

The 2003 Accord 2.4L is a varation of the CR-V motor. If the CR-V one fits, it should fit too. Same power and torque ratings, but horsepower peak is 500 RPM sooner, while torque peak is 500 RPM later. I'll see if I can find out what exactly they changed to account for that weirdness....
