What does the vinegar do to the paint?? It's a base so wouldn't it do some type of damage or does it just strip off te impurities??

I think vinegar is an acid? You can use it to remove minerals in etched water spots on your windows and paint. You want to dilute it with water first though.

 Why would you "Massengal" your car?

My car SMELLS fresh. . .no "bread" being made here?

I've never heard of douching paint :o

Vinegar is acetic acid, and table vinegar is a 5% strength solution. It is a very good non-abrasive method for removing water spots and mineral deposits on paint.

Bingo.

Out of the hundreds I've spent on Meguiars, Zaino, etc etc, a $2.00 gallon of vinegar from store has been my best investment for detailing.

I just tried using a little bit of vinegar on some of my water spots... WOW! i had never thought it would work so well.... Works great if you have to wash your dark car in the sun and the water dries on it... I just used it on a couple small spots, water and vinegar mixture, wipe on, wipe dry... Damn, ive got a lot of swirl marks... :(

here I come. I've seen 20 packs of Douches for CHEAP:D

Really, I'll check it out when I wash my car next.

Thanks for the "tip":p

Only when my car has that, you know, not so fresh feeling. I'ver never heard of it but it probably works. The best way to not get water spots on your car is to not wash it when it is hot, especially if it is black. If you do have to wash a black car in the hot sun you can wash one side, dry it, then wash the other side.

I have heard using vinegar on the windsheild and other class for water spots and it does work great. I have heard the down side is on the paint is that it will stip the wax off the car just like using dish soap.

Do you go out and dry your car every time it rains and the sun comes out? What if you at say the mall?

The only reason I can waterspots is when it rains and I simply don't have the means or time to go wash/dry the spots off.

Claybar > Vinegar is not true all the time. I use a claybar as well, but to be honest, vinegar has provided better results as far as WATERSPOTS go.

Claybar is still great for getting other nasties off.

Question about that, i normally use dishsoap, and I do know that it strips the wax... What else can I use? Dumb Question...

vinegar is also good to get the plastic evaporation blueish haze from the inside of your windows. Had to do it twice already. In the summer heat all the plastisizer really comes out of the plastic and hazes up the windows on the inside. Never thought of using it on paint, good idea though. will have to try it next time.

Most of the time a 50/50 mix will do the trick.

Water spots are mineral deposits. They are a base or an alkaline substance ( calcium and other minerals ) left behind when water dries on the car. The acid neutralizes the minerals and washes them off of the paint or glass. You can use vinegar straight on the glass, but I usually use a 50/50 solution on the paint. You must wax the car after you use it.

How long does the vinegar smell last?

Because I won't be able to handle vinegar smell on my ride for more than 2 minutes.

Is it ok to use the vinegar on a CF hood for touch-ups? Water spots stick out like a sore thumb on my CF. Waxing it again would just take too long.

Will the vinegar leave swirl marks on the paint???

Brettnyt
07-23-2003, 04:54 PM
Water the vinegar down a bit and then apply, and wipe away...

Brettnyt
07-23-2003, 04:57 PM
Oh yeah, as for the swirl marks, the vinegar itself will not leave marks, just the scrubbing...

I'm a little lost, please help me out a little bit. Vinegar helps keep the windows from developing the haze? Would you apply the vinegar to the inside of the window or the dash? How much water should be mixed in?
