You can get a Quaife LSD for $950 shipped. I'm almost positive that it's better than the stock JDM LSD.

From the experience I've had with installing one in a 2000 si, it's not too hard. Just remove the tranny, open the case, remove the gears and synchros(just tie them up and remove as one piece). Find the stock open differential, remove and replace with aftermarket diff. Keep in mind the 8 or 9 bolts holding the diff in are backwards threaded. Left tight right loose.. That's all I really remember.

Quaife is still the best IMO.

quaife IS still the best. The OEM one is...well....OEM. Just look at what all the high hp setups have, or the famed quaife LSD in the ford focus RS.

For the person who asked, a limited slip differential takes away power from a wheel thats spinning too much and gives it to the wheel thats not spinning enough. Helps out tremendously with taking turns, as well as high tq burnouts, but alot more w/ tite turns.

on an interesting sidenote, spoon has an lsd for the ep3 also. If a type r lsd fits, the spoon lsd should fit as well

yes and no. quaife is one of the best for the street as it has a lifetime warranty (reliability) and does not have clutch packs to wear out (longevity).

HOWEVER, in function, i'd take a quality clutch type limited slip over the quaife any day. I'm waiting for some good ones to be produced, kaaz, ats, cusco those guys all make good clutch type LSD's that work much better than the quaife for high hp applications and for high speed use.

since you've got a turbo in your car steve, i'd hold out for a clutch type diff as well - assuming you can handle the clutch pack rebuilds.

As soon as I'm in my new house and I have a garage, I'm game for anything. I can't add wiper fluid to my car with the oldies in my condo going NUTZ. "You can't work on your car here!"

Bastards!

I was looking at the Kaaz LSD. Rebuilding it may not be that bad, but I'm not entirely sure what I want to do. We'll see as soon as my car comes out of the shop.

if you've driven a car with a gear type LSD v.s. one with a clutch type LSD, your choice will be easy to make. :)

as for the rebuilds, i'm sure you'll read some horror stories about rebuilds, but the key is the break in. almost no one breaks 'em in right b/c it entials driving in figure 8's for like 30 min.

i think os giken, the infamous clutch manufacturer, makes a
super-lock lsd. it cost way too much though, but is considered the best out there in the japanese market.

oh yea acanbeusa.com is a distributer of os giken products

os giken is good shit. doesn't come cheap though, 1400$ and worth every penny for a hardcore driver.

ats also makes very good LSD's, but they haven't made one for the k20 trannys yet.

the cheaper clutch type diff would be the kaaz, it's better than most gear type diffs, but it's nowhere near as responsive as an os giken or ats.

If you mean the RSX Type-S it doesn't come with an LSD. The JDM Type-R does come with one though that would probably work.
