I have the chance to pick up a type-s motor, trani, ecu, wiring harness, sub-frame, and all the stuff needed for a swap. The motor has 7500 miles on it and everything is running fine. Is 3500 bucks a good deal because it seems to be ? I really would like to get it because I know I could sell my si motor and trani for the same price if not more. I haven't even changed the oil in mine yet. I have 2900 miles on mine.

Sounds like a good deal to me, but The SI motor is not worth $3500. You might get $2000 out of it.

Well I have to make my mind up tommorow, and I don't mind getting 2000 for my motor and trani.
The main thing I'm looking for is a little better gas milege at 80mph and a 6th gear and something to talk about with my friends. Also I have a friend with a 98 firebird that I need to outrun. He's running 14.08 in the quarter. I wonder if my header and cai will fit?

You're gonna need a few more mods than header and CAI to beat him. and NO your header and CAI will not fit......CAI might with some modification.
To beat him you will need Hondata flash, motor mount inserts, cai, Short shifter, sticky tires, catback exhaust (optional). And you need to be an excellent driver. Your trap speeds will be 98-101 MPH and you can run anywhere between 13.8 - 14.4 depending on how well you can drive.

I'm still debating weather or not to just wait for TODA to come out with a kit or to go ahead with the engine swap. I have the money but just don't know what the best thing to do is. I plan on doing a lot to this car but I'm kinda at a stopping point now. Need some advice. I do want to keep the car NA without nitros.

just swap the engine. $3500 sounds like a great deal.

OK , check this out! I didn't know that the jdm k20 motor was that easy to get so now I have two choices. So which one to go with? The biggest difference is one is cheaper and one has 20 to 30 more hp. Am I going to notice that big of a difference between the two? If I go with the JDM motor, I should have a better chance at running 14 sec quarter mile? opinions needed

Something else I realized is its hard to find a jdm motor with low low miles. I'm trying to find a motor with around 3000 miles or less.

You will hit 14s with a stock K20A2, and if you are good enough you will hit 13s with the K20A, most likely low 14s.
But to hit 13s with the K20A2 you need minimal mods.

Yeah I wouldn't mind spending less money for the motor. But do you know what the jdm k20 runs stock in the si? Also what is the big difference that gives it 20 more hp than the k20a2

Member PORT has the K20A installed in his Si and ran a 13.97 with intake and exhaust I believe...
K20A has different cams, intake manifold and pistons. That's it internally. If you get intake, exhaust, header, cams, Hondata ITR flash and ITR intake manifold on the K20A2 it will be actually putting down around 220whp. Stock K20A is puts down 199whp as tested by a ClubRsx member "itsstockofficer".

Cams = $500
ITR manifold = $300
Intake = $200
Hondata gasket = $50
JR race header = $550
Hondata Flash = $600

So for about $2500 with install, you will have a mid 13 sec car all day any day, if you can drive.

I might have to go with the k20a2. That sounds pretty good. Plus I can get a motor with really low miles. What header do I use that will fit? The only thing I don't like about buying these used motors is all of them came out of wrecked cars. You wouldn't happen to know were I could find a new complete engine/trani swap for around 3500$ ?

I doubt you will find a new one, but get one that came out of a car with rear damage if you can.
The Jackson Racing Race header will fit and so will the Comptech Race header (which is the best header period). You will see a 20whp gain with this header (16-18 with the JR header), but you need an adapter for the comptech to run a catback exaust.

But what if you could get the k20a complete swap for about 4700 bucks? whould it be worth it then? they have one on ebay with a buy it now for 4400$ and shipped for 300$ but it is being shipped from Japan. Sound like a good thing?

If you feel comfortable with it. I'd get something locally if I were to do it. Make sure whoever you buy from, are a reputable company. Also, when the engines come from Japan, who knows what kind of shape they are in. Just gotta make sure you know what you're getting.

Yeah I couldn't pass the deal up. I actually found it on ebay and it said if you want to end the auction early then email the guy and he will include shipping in the price. I did as much research as I could and everything sounded legit so I went for it. Now I have to wait for my tracking numbers and I'll feel a little better. You never know when you buy from ebay.
