For those interested in 2004 model speculation, check out this tread from our British friends (PLEASE NOTE, THIS CONCERNS THE BRITISH MARKET):

http://www.civictype-r.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11376&start=0

The new Civic Type R is confirmed for January 04.
Changes to the current model as follows:
Front end lights and grill will be as the new Accord (take a look at the US 04 Civic Coupe- a big mistake)
Rear will be similar to the current Jazz.
Interior will be upgraded with new seat facias
gear change will be 6 speed but floor mounted
engine uprated 200bhp + (exact details not yet confirmed, but has been described as an all singing all dancing "fire breathing animal")
LSD fitted
Traction control
climate control
Full body Kit
optional upgrade of alloys will be offered
Price TBA.

Dealers will have details at the end of September. The new september registration date is being used to "move" all the current civic models. Hence the advertised offers in the press.

Sounds very un-Honda-like. They're too conservative to change the car this drastically after only a couple of years. Maybe if the car was tanking, but the CTR is selling well. At the 2-year point, don't the usually just do mild front and rear "freshening" and that's about it?

I agree with what bobdobbs said. Sounds a lot like wishful thinking, especially with the floor mounted shifter. Mid-generation refreshing of the interior is usually only a center console reorganization. Honda has the center console down pretty good though, because they've been using the same basic layout since '99. If EP gets similar lights to the '04 Civic, it's going to make the EP look even more like a minivan. The big headlights takes some of the attention away from the stubby minivan nose.

ah well, we aint getting the Type-R here in the states anyways, useful info for people wanting to keep up todate with TypeR, useless for the people that cant get it! :)

From that board I guess evostu is someone 'in the know' over in the uk as it's put on that board

So I'd like to know exactly where this info "Direct from Honda" came from?

LSD & Traction Control?

Well considering that no Type R has EVER had both of those it's highly unlikely. It would defeat the object of an LSD and the LSD would never get to work on it's own.

With that sort of spec you've listed here you would push the price of the CTR to well over 20K which again is highly unlikely.

Nobody outside of Honda Europe/Japan has firm details of the new CTR yet and thats a FACT!

LOL, bringing back a thread from the dead? The '04 Type-R is already out and the change isn't that drastic. So much for the floor mounted shifter.

IT'S NOT COMING!!! Please, let's stop the rumors and speculation, some peoples hearts can't take it. Maybe in 5 to 7 years, not not anytime soon. Besides, if we did have the ctr acura wouldn't be able to sell the rsx type r. I'd love to see it, but it's not happening!

i think its a stupid rumor...the civic Type-r is a hatchback. NO more no less....why would they change it like that when they have already changed it slightly for early 2004?

we will never see a CTR here! why???

(all list prices mind you)

civic SI $19,000-$19,500
RSX-S $23,000-$24,000
civic SI HFP $24,500-$25,000
RSX-S A-Spec $27,500-$28,500
S2000 $32,500-$35,000

the type-R does not fit in this marketing line up, the HFP is as close as we'll ever get, so buy an HFP and swap a motor or and RSX-S and swap cams and install an LSD, etc.

'cuse the rant I know this topic is dead.....

If my facts are correct, the equivalant of the EP-3 sell for 1,000 pounds less than the Type R in England. 1,000 pounds equals approximately $1,600. Considering this, a Type R in the USA could sell for $21,000. If these facts are correct, then why would anyone pay $4,000 plus for the HFP package, if the CTR was available in the US?
