Now that I've broken in an si for the second time, it deffinantly can hold it's own in acceleration and speed. I'm just sort of bummed on the top speed in first, my mom has an integ. gsr and even though it's loud as shit and not as refined as our cars you can pull around 50 in first. I miss that about this version of the si. It seems that the other gears are pretty tall like 2nd is around 60 third 80 4th 80-90 and 5th 85-90 at around 4.5k rpms. It just seems like in my 02' si I'd bounce of the rev limiter in first occasionaly so I'm really careful with my new one. I guess thats why the shifters on the dash?

I totally agree and that is one of only a couple pet peeves I have with this car. It seems to me 1st gear is way too short for daily driving. Keep in mind this is my first manual transmision car, but I've driven alot of other manuals and the ep to me has by far the shortest 1st gear.

Yes.. first get is too short. Also it can use a tall 6th gear. Everytime I hit 80mph's I feel like I need to shift.

i like our gear ratio's...
though cruising on the highway at 85-90mph can be annoying....

oh yea, no way a gsr hits anywhere near 50mph in 1st gear...

it would be nice if we had higher rev limit stock to take the edge off, but o well

if I had a dime for everytime I have hit the rev limiter.. I would have at least $1.50 hehe. I want to hondata my car so I can raise the red line to 7700

1st shift doesn't bother me at all.....5th gear bothers the hell out of me.

My dad's infinite j30 cruises at 80mph at 2900rpms.

My Si cruses at 80mph at 4100rpms....

and we wonder why we get shitty gas milage.

I would love to have a six gear for cruising. So you could go 100mph at 4k. that would be pimp.

Im pretty happy with em as is...there's good pull for auto-x in second... way better than some folks got it...even 00'si's are fiddling with first-to-second gear coming out of corners that I have plenty of power down low in 2nd to get through.

I wouldn't mind 7500 instead of 6800 RL, but Im not ready for hondata yet... still doing suspension.

1-2 is my only complaint as everyone has said i hit rev limiter all the time.and with my exhaust and intake when it hits that people really know i fucked up so its kind embarrasing.

Our 5th gear is the same gear as the rsx 6th gear. We just have a more aggressive final drive.

I think people should do the a2 swap and keep our tranny....

so what if were rolling at high rpms on the freeway, that doesn't mean our gas mileage is bad...I can get 31 mpg w/ i/h/e 17" rims

going 100+ at times.

Whats your problem? Do you have a gsr? Our car's hit 30mph at 6800rpms why is it so hard to believe that a gsr that redlines at 8200 wouldn't hit 45-50mph in 1st? Can anyone vouch for this first hand? Sorry I don't live with my parents so I can't test it out first hand.

I don't have a problem....do you, Mr. Attitude?
You can roll your eyes at me as much as you want...
It wont change the fact that a GSR will not hit 50mph in 1st gear.

Here's the info if you want it:

1994+ Acura Integra GSR

1st gear ratio = 3.23:1 = 38.2 mph top speed

I actually like the 1st gear. It is excellent for driving in stop and go traffic. I can do a 5mph crawl without clutching, just lightly pressing the throttle. When I let go of the ga pedal, the car almost stops. It is very good for slow miving traffic.

I would have liked either a taller 5th or our 5th with a 6th on top with 0.55-0.65 ratio (keeping our final drive)

Well, first gear isn't so bad, I rarely use it after all, but driving on the highway at 135km/h over 4000rpm makes me wish for another gear to drop it down another 1000rpm to cruise...

I don't find the ratios too bad. maybe it's because we have a low red line? It just seems like we're not going anywhere fast in 1st gear. as for cruising at 4000 rpm in 5th gear on the hightway, I'm surprised how smooth and quiet the car is.
I think the gas mileage is great.

I think the ratios we've got are good. Like someone else said, 1st is a good crawling gear. It's easy to slowly roll around a parking lot or deal with stop & go traffic. A taller first gear wouldn't serve much purpose. Besides, since it's so short, it gets the car moving from a stop (an object at rest tends to stay at rest, so taking off is more draining than shifting on the move) easier than a taller gear, which would save wear on the clutch.

2nd feels like it would be a good autocrossing gear, and it's good for getting up to speed on most freeway ramps.

5th doesn't bother me too much. Yes, it feels relaxed at speed (sometimes surprising me when I inadvertently see 110 MPH), even at 4K on the tach, and it's still got some oomph for "casual" passing situations. I guess that I would like a taller ratio just to see the tach at a lower RPM, but then it would need another 50-100 horsepower to behave the same.

So, yeah, I like the transmission ratios. I'd rather have a higher redline, though.

Not a bad idea.... I also drive my car hard constantly, and still i get 31+ mpg.... I like our gear ratio's... we still have power in fifth cause we cruise at 3000+ RPM's...

Here's a question I have. Is it bad to start off in second gear? I've only done it 2 or 3 times but you can build up alot of speed before having to shift (into third). I'm not talking about for racing, but just casual driving. Does it hurt the car at all?

My guess is that it is not HORRIBLE, but it will put quite a bit of stress on the engine...

From a stop it is very bad for your clutch to start out in any gear other than 1st.
If you're moving at all, it's not so bad.
