Im just wondering is it alright to use 89 octane gasoline cuz my cousin has an 02 and told me its ok for our cars even though the 99-00 Si's need premium gasoline

also whats the best brand of gas that u guys would prefer i know for sure at least the gas stations around my house the premium 92 octane shell works less efficiently then 76's and Mobile's regular 89 octane...makes my car feel sluggish and i can feel some massive ass lag and im just wondering what u guys use:)

I use 92 octain at a local Dominicks Store. There if you use your Dominicks card you get money off your gas like 3 cents off but I payed $1.64 for 92 last week while I saw a few stations asking about that price for 87.

I think i will use low Cheveron.

You are feeling the timing being retarded (overeacting ECU) due to sensing engine knock. Its really noticable after switching from 89 or higher back to 87. Use 89 if its hot out as that will get rid of most of that feeling or reset your ecu by removing the + cable for 10-15 minutes and putting it back on.

you know the manual says to low grade right? its not too smart to use 91-92 either... it can actually cause engine knock just as much as preventing it. I used nothing but 87 but used 89 for a road trip and I actually got better gas mileage... my Prelude I used 91-92 because the engine was rebuilt and all that good stuff and was told it would help the engine from knocking... 3500 miles after the rebuild and it was knocking and tapping like crazy, even after adjusting the valves and new valve springs...

Hmmm... That's new to me. Can you explain how that happens?

Your crazy dood. Our engines have fuel maps up to 100 octane and let me tell you. I put 100 octane in my car and I wish to god i had the money for it 247. The engine is super smooth pulls super nice.

Anyways i use exxon because when you pre-pay it starts slowing down at only .10 cents off what you pre-pay instead of 30 cents like most places. ;)

Oh yeah and i use 93 octane as much as possible.

Are engines are 9.8:1 compression. Its problably a good a idea to run middle grade on up. Cheveron works pretty good up here in CO. Diamond Shamrok is the worst.

Prem. Cheveron with Techron.

i always run 91 octane from 76, chevron, and sometimes mobil. for some reason 76 seems like more power and less gas milage than chevron. my buddies uncle works for arco and these are the only three companys that he uses or recommends. he said, "shell is high priced arco shit gas".

I find out that I have better gas millage with the 92 octain comparied to the 87 or 89. I have thought when I was at the track though what would happen if I added the 112 octain that they sell. The only thing is that is is cheap because it is died so it will not be used for the road or you get fined. I have seen guys add this to their stock honda engines that have about a few 100,000 miles on them and all season long use it on the track and not a single engine fuel related problem.

91 shouldn't cause knock. I've read some articles on dyno runs that claimed our engines seemed to like the 91 octane gas. Not sure how true this is. But under high heat conditions, the ecu will retard the timing of the engine to prevent knock with lower octane gas, and you're running in a low performance mode, but if you use 91 it won't retard the timing (since higher octane has higher resistance to detonation) and you'll be running normally. However, with 91 under normal conditions you run the risk that the gas isn't burning as quickly as the engine timing was designed for because of the higher octane rating, and a lag in gas burn will also hurt performance. So they claim our engine like 91 but i don't know under what conditions the dyno run was made.

I use 91 whenever possible. Sometimes I get caught in an area with really expensive gas and have to get 89. I get better mileage and performance from the 91. I drive hard just about all the time. Not usually with WOT, but a good bit harder than Joe Schmo on the road. Even getting gas from the same station, same octane, and testing 4 tank refils, I found that NO ONE in my area offers the same gas twice. Sometimes the car is sluggish and lags, sometimes it feels light and responsive. I'll never know what the Balti-MORONS around here do with their gas before they sell it.:(

When I first bought the car I used to put the expensive ish. And then I read the manual and started to put the cheap ish, I get better MPG now with the cheap ish.

I normally go to Ractrack or Doge's Store over here in sunny Florida.

My friend would like to know if there is a difference between 93 and 94 Sunoco octane? Can ya feel it mang?

Man, I had the opportunity to go with 94 Sunoco on Saturday but after spending a little too much at Six Flags, I "settled" for the 93 Sunoco instead. It's been a while since I've used 94 Sunoco. :'(
