I've had my skunk2 coilovers for about 8 months now. During the spring time, I noticed that the plastic coating on the rear springs were starting to crack. I didn't think it was such a big deal. I recently raised my car up and noticed that about 30% of the plastic coating on the spring had flaked off. I could see parts were still flaking off and if I touched it, it would just crumble off. It has also started to rust a bit.
Question is, should I be worried? Wouldn't rust make the metal weaker?
I've emailed Skunk2 and I'm waiting for a response. Has anyone else experienced this problem? It's only occuring on the 2 rear springs. The front are fine.

If you haven't already I would post your problem on some other forums. I'm sure someone has delt with a similar problem. Check jdmcivic.com, superhonda.com or clubsi.com for starters. Sounds like a factory defect to me.

mine have also flaked off on the rear. I've been watching for rust, but so far so good. Yes, I'd say that is scarey!

Unfortunatly i'm using Hotmail and it doesn't save my sent messages. I wonder if anyone else is having this problem. I'm going to take a picture of it and post it here later tonight. I will also forward a picture of the rear spring and CC you on the email to Skunk2.
If anyone else is having this problem, please post here. I'm going to send Skunk2 a link to this thread as well.

holy shit! mine is no where near that bad. I just have the peeling. That's some scarey shit! I don't have rusting, just some of the paint peeling off. It looks like something real bad is going on there, like you went through some damn acid somewhere. Even your shock looks like it's rusting. I think skunk2 will say it has to do with something besides them.

mine started 4 months ago as just a crack with no rust or anything. Then just about 3 weeks ago when I raised up my car i noticed this.

The thing is the front springs are in perfect condition. If I were to drive through some acid or something wouldn't the front be affected as well?

02SilverSiHB is yours peeling like mine? The coating is very brittle and if I were to touch it, it would just fall right off.

We can't be the only ones having this problem.

I've had mine for like 4 months I think...since I got back from saudi in May. I'll take some when I get back from work today. They are peeling a little bit up top, not as bad as yours. I think the rear springs move around more than the ones in the front, but it looks like your's moved around a lot then the paint peeled off, exposed it to the the weather, thus the rust. Damn. I hope this isn't the case for mine, but I'll find out soon enough tonight.

Also note that they are not even with the amount of threads versus each. I don't know why it's like that...is yours like that...because my ride appears to be even. I even measured with measuring tape.
