View Full Version : Alpine CDA 7995 or 9815

What I debating between is these two head units :

Alpine CDA 7995 or 9815

I can get the 7995 for 300 plus tax but I also know that I need an external amp for it, which would cost probably another 200-300 dollars.

I can get the 9815 for 340 with no tax and I wouldn't need an amp.

Yeah, it sounds like a no brainer but my friend said the 7995 would sound a lot better in my car because of the external amp. The only reason I haven't jumped on the 9815 is because Im not sure what it would look like in the car and what the difference in sound quality would be.

BTW i already have the 12 inch type r sub with a mono v12 amp for it. I think its the MRD-M300 amp.

So any pics and opinions of the 9815 and 7995 would be nice.

Here is the 9815 in my Si. I love it, but do realize that this deck is not "plug and play" You must be willing to tweek EVERYTHING to get the sound you want. FActory default settings are a very dull-bland-yuck!
But the i-personalize is very helpfull:)

Thanks for the pic I was really waiting to see what one would look like in this car. How much was the kit to fit the head unit?

I've been contemplating between the 7995 and the 9807...

I have the Alpine 7995 and it sounds really good. I looked at the 9815 when I was trying to make my decision and what I realized was that I'm already going to be upgrading every speaker and adding a sub, so I was going to need a amp anyways, so I went ahead and got the 7995 because it was cheaper due to being last years model and it had recieved rave reviews on sound quality. I think I got mine for about $360 shipped from etronics.com, but crutchfield is probably the best deal going right now. Anyways, the 7995 is a awesome deck and if you are planning on changing the amp then its probably the best way to go.

...and if you need your stuff color matched to silver email me or pm me, i will hook you up with the guy that did mine (my friend/family friend) :)

3 different silvers to match it up perfect, looks pretty darn close to OEM color, infact in person you can bairly tell it isnt...

Hey greeny, Can we get a good clean night shot?

I also have the 9815 and i love it, its not a fancy deck, but it is loaded with a lot of tweaking options. Only bad thing is that you really have to take the time to set it to the sound you want.

I have Mb quart comps in the front and rear, a type R 12" sub, and 2 V12 amps, the 500W monoblock and the 340 4 channel

heres a night shot

I love the alpine 9815 but I think the blue is just to much. I am looking at the kenwood 969.

I think I am headed towards getting the 9815 because of the fact that I dont need an external amp. And for the pure purpose of saving money for my rims, the volk se37s, if any of you have a picture it would be great.

Thanks for all of your opinions. I appreciate the help.

Btw where did you get your kit from jaydub? I really like how it looks.

Any help with anyone who has already set the 9815 would be great.

They did, but I've had mine done for about 9mo now, so I don't ahve any left, and I've moved so I lost the paperwork. :( I'd have to start from scratch myself (haha scratch myself) if I wanted to repaint another one.

I am very about the tardy-ness of my reply ( netwerk down at work and I work 6am to 6:30pm...) But my settings will be different than yours as my speakers are different than yours. For instance, my front Alpine typeX 6-1/2" components sounded WAAAYYY to brite and the bass was rather dull, and the mids sounded too flat with the stock 9815 settings. So I had to play with what I thought would make everything sound the way I wanted it to.
I have not touched the time correction yet, and I mean yet:D.

Every one else your questions asked of me seemed to already be answerd:)

I spent a little over $1300 and got everything that I wanted. I shopped around on the internet and between eBay and Etronics.com I saved over $1000 versus what I would have paid if I got everything locally and installed. I also did the entire install myself. My system consist of:

-Alpine 7995 HU
-Alpine 5 ch. 850w amp
-Alpine 6 1/2" Type R separates up front
-Alpine 6 1/2" Type R components in the rear
-Alpine 10" Type R sub in Q-Logic box
-4 gauge amp wiring kit
-Monster Cable 5 ch. RCA cables
-Monster Cable Flat speaker wire

spent alittle less than 2 grand...but i got all my shte @ low low cost, i would prolly be up in the range of 4 if it was all retail...fuk retail! :)

if you are talking about the dash kit, several companies make them...if you look through the pics...a lot of people have different ones

your dash kit seems to fit better than the one I posted. Where did you get yours? and also, where did you get the carbon fiber part. One more question. What exactly does the dash kit consist of? The Bracket that goes into the dash and what else?

EnJaNir
09-23-2003, 11:57 AM
the CF dashkit is OEM honda, it consists of 4 pieces, 2 which cover the vents, the one that goes around the stick, and the one that goes around the radio..very good fitment, and i think it looks good

I had "the best" kit before but didnt care for it, so i had the store which did my install order a different one. I honestly couldnt tell you which one it is, i will be going home on sat, and could find out for you though and try to get a part number

the dash kit is not needed to do the stereo install, but it is just the piece that basically fills the gap in the dash(because of the stock radios shape), you can also use it for a double din install..etc etc hope that helps, im sure someoone else may beable to explain it better

Thanks for the explaination. You've been very helpful. Do you know if the double din will fit a head unit and a VAFC2? Because it seems as though the bottom is a lot smaller than the one on top. What do you thinK?

EnJaNir
09-23-2003, 05:06 PM
if you use the double din..it actually is a different piece from my understanding, so that they will both be the same size

questions about subs...

1. do i need an amp to hook up a sub? i am currently using the alpine 9815 hu

2. how big a sub do you guys recommend? i don't want one that will take up the size of my trunk... just something that's small and snug and will fit nicely in a corner (you guys have any pics of subs in the back of your car?)

thanks!

EnJaNir
09-26-2003, 11:41 PM
1) yes you need a sub inorder to power the sub
2) its really preference, a 10" i feel will sound very good in a sealed box for nice tight clean bass, you could also go with a 12" if you want it a little deeper and louder..i would suggest going to a store..and listening to a few different setups in a "loud room" or something equivalent, and kinda get what you like
