Freudian Slip? Check out the January 2003 blurb.

HONDA CIVIC Si (January 2003)

Three tuners offer tips for making these hot hatches even hotter.

Honda Civic Si (December 2001)
The Si returns, and it's the most European Honda we've ever seen.

PSHHH!

A WAGON??!!!?!!

I would maybe consider the Stream a wagon, since it has 5 doors like a P5, but if its a 3-door, its a hatch.

BTW, did you guys know the EP is a compact, and the RSX is a sub-compact, though it weighs 40lb more and is longer than the EP?

I guess compact/sub-compact is based on rear cargo/passenger space and headroom.

It is really intersting to see how thier portrayal of the Si has change over time from a HOT HATCH to a "Wagon"...

I just looked it up at http://www.acura.com/models/model_comparison_frm.asp?module=rsx using comparison of rsx-s and rsx-base vs. civic si:

Curb Weight
Si: 2744
RSX-Base MT: 2694 (50 less)
RSX-S: 2767 (23 more)

I dont know why I was thinking the 40 lbs. difference was in there.

VW GTI 1.8T and Ford Focus SVT.......and the winner was.............

SVT. The Si finished second. They had mostly positive things to say about it; big knock was the tires.

cool, the svt is a little faster stock. AND our tires and suspension is our Achilles(is that spelled right) heel.

Road & Track did a similar test, with similar results...

4th Hyundai Tiburon
3rd Nissan Sentra Spec-V
2nd Honda Civic Si
1st Ford Focus SVT

The Si was the actual favorite of some of the editors, due to its interior "great seats for ANY price range" and quality. Again, the tires were its downfall.

Even more curious was a Consumer Reports test... Even though the SVT did win in comparison testing, they could not recommend it due to past reliabilty... The winner... The Si!

You'd think Edmunds.com would come to the same conclusion, based on the 5-year True-Cost-to-Own right on their own website:

'03 Civic Si: $27,563
'03 SVT Focus: $37,807 (!)

Over $10,000 more over five years! Is that "razor-sharp" handling on the SVT worth $10K? Edmund's apparently thinks so, because they've picked the SVT two years in a row as their Hot Hatch winner. Of course, it's not their money. I always thought Consumer Reports was full of it when it came to cars, but this time I think they nailed it.

Don't take it seriously, Car & Driver is just full of idiots. Csere is the biggest. The entire Letters section was full of letters regarding blatant errors in their article from last month. They even said that Honda and WILLIAMS dominated the 1988 season while winning 15 of 16 races. They are trying to be more Road and Track. They are assholes ,too. They add a smart ass slant to everything, almost snobbish. Ran all over the Jeff Gordan / Montoya swap, Brock Yates said the Champ Car series should get rid of all aerodynamics and run only 400+ cubic inch American iron and be limited only to good old boys from the South, and after having a blast in the Comptech S2000 which won the fourbanger contest, they proceeded to say the whole test was bullshit because a Corvette only costs $56,000+ and can beat everyone of them right off of the showroom. Said other stupid things, too, but it's just not worth repeating them. Their numbers for acceleration must be generated by my Mother at 5000 ft altitude. Yet, seems like every SUV (and are numerous) can beat an Si. (at least less than 7.5 seconds). Book is really thin now, too.

Screw them. Read everything with a grain of salt. You should read what all the magazines say and not worry about just one. Especially not C&D.

BTW, a long road trip on the interstate really loosens up the EP. The EP can swallow a dog carrier, and a mother-in-law in the back. Also can handle a 4 foot Rubbermaid outdoor table laying flat!! This car is huge. The EP is the best compromise all around, period. The right ground clearance, the right power, the right amount of room, tons of legroom up front. The only thing that can come close is the Matrix, and since that is a Toyota, it sound like it will fall apart at any moment.
