dumb question, but i have this split bushing on the end of the steering arm. i'm not sure what it's called, but do any of you think it would be covered under warranty... even though i have my car lowered on progress springs?

i took pics but don't have my camera on me, so i used greenguy's car to illustrate:

Whoever installed your springs tore that, probably with a pickle-fork. It's not covered by warranty.

plainol2k2si: no, i pretty sure it's not an endlink. it IS busted, though.

bobdobbs: thanks. i'll call those tards. they probably split it a long time ago, but i just noticed it. i have a feeling they're subgenii, though in the literal sense, not the "slack" sense. :)

Don't be too harsh on them; those boots are really easy to tear, especially with those impossibly tight tie rod joints. I've torn plenty.

That's the tie rod boot. The shop that installed my springs tore both of them. I know you can get the boots alone, anyone know the part number? Anyone replaced the boots before on their EP? I don't want to buy two new tie rod ends. That would suck.

That it is a tie rod boot. No big deal. I tore mine too. The part # is 53546-s84-003. It's like $3. Something like that.

How do you replace just the boot?

If you use a Pitman arm puller instead of a pickle fork or bashing the poor arm with a hammer you won't run into this problem in the future.

Thanks! How do you replace the torn boots? I couldn't figure out how you take the boot off?

nice! they're $1.27 at majestic honda (http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/).

i'll probably just grab them from my dealer and look into finding one of those pullers. thanks, all.

You probably don't need the puller since the tie rods have been pulled before. They're probably loose enough that a strike to the bottom with a dead-blow hammer will pop them out.

Besides, finding a puller that fits isn't easy. I tried.

Autozone. They have some there you can borrow and return, or buy of course.

Anyone? How do you replace the torn boot? I need to replace mine without having to buy brand new tie rod ends.

If you google for "replace tie rod boot" you can find some how-to's. It seems there's some retaining ring that hold the boot in place that you can just pry off, replace the boot, and squirt some grease in there. I'm going to take a look at mine this weekend and I'll post when I figure it out for sure.

thanks.
Your welcome! ;)
like everyone has said, its easy to replace, but dont use a normal 16 oz. hammer. A dead blow works best and it will just pop apart. then replace the old with new and put back together. Pretty easy :)
