Shiny chrome pieces have no place inside a taillight. Those things are fugly. Maybe if you had a flat black color instead of the chrome.

Better looking than the current ones on sale, but not a patch on the factory units. That said, I think the standard-issue taillamps aren't particularly attractive and could easily be improved upon. The '04 OEM 'lamps don't look very good either, though admittedly I've only seen pics and not a good enough close-up...

Actually, it is --

Obviously, the avatar has the stock taillight, but that's not what's being discussed in this case. The original pic was also the only one I had that was taken from nearly the proper angle to photochop the new 'tezza. Plus, I didn't need to crop out the left taillight or make much more trouble for myself by flipping & trimming the altezza pic to fit both taillight locations (in short, I picked a pic with just the right taillight).

For the avatar, before cropping it to size, I changed the saturation & color balance and a few other settings to make it a bit crisper.

The avatar does look pretty different from the original, though -- I guess my alterations worked. ;)

Toyota loves Altezzas also, the New Prius, Lexus RX330 are the worst offenders, yet I still like the look on the original, the IS300 but only that car and that car only. I honestly think the next big thing will be the LED craze thats showing up on all the new cars from Infiniti, BMW, Mercedes all of which are using LEDs for brake & turn signals. Just a matter of time before APC sells a kit for a '95 Accord with LED Altezzas.

I might be the only one, but I actually love the two little circles that make up the reverse lamps on our stock tails. I love the all red on the white circles, it fits the body profile of our car better than what would chrome or round circles cut out. Also I love how the reflectors look to on the stock tails, kinda like this -\ /-

But Toyota invented Altezzas, so in a way, it's their "thing." So they're not really following a trend, They're following their own design style that they invented. I thought they were pretty damn cool when I first saw pictures of the Toyota Altezza with these newfangled lights, but man, once you see beat-up SUVs and Neons with them, you know they're crap. Man, they are so played out now. And APC and others keep making new ones. Like they move one of the circles a bit and say "Breakthrough new style!! 4th Generation Altezzas! Be the first R(a/i)cer to have them. Euro style! Blah Blah Blah...." BTW, I've seen a European car or two and that shit is definitely not Euro style. I don't think I've ever seen anything like that on the road in Europe. Although they do have them in their aftermarket. They call them "Lexus" style.

As for LED lights... I think that's actually pretty cool. That's not really so much a design, that's more like a technological advance. I think eventually all cars will have LED taillights. They light up quicker and more crisply, use less energy, and they don't burn out. And you can design them into any kind of lights you want. They don't necessarily have to be as blatantly polka-dotted as most of today's LED lights are. For example, they can be designed so you just see a uniform sea of red (or amber or whatever), for example, as on the Cadillac Deville.

If you like them buy them. You are buying these for your car not for everyone else. That is the best thing about the sport import craze everyone has their own style. Buy what you like. Some people think lowered hondas with big wheels look stupid. Mind you not me that is what my car looks like. I learned long ago that it is not about what others think.

I always thought those reverse lights looked out of place since the rest of the lights in the assembly are long and rectangular.
