Why would you even want to add a "Shift Light", those things are annoying as hell.

Heh, I've never drag raced but there's not alot else to do besides go straight, watch the rev needle, and shift is there?

:D

I guess the only platform I have is - try it.

That needle-is-a-flyin'! And we're talking about trying to get 1/10's or 1/100's of seconds off of your best time.

A light is much easier to keep things in check with the rpm. Especially off the launch. Try watching a moving light-tree outside the car while watching your tach and launching and trying to watch the road too. It may be a little tougher than you think.

i didnt' ask what you thought about me putting a shift light i asked if you know how to install one in our cars .

besides, as the RPM gets higher, the needle gets inaccurate when I try to shift right at fuel cutoff.

so does anyone know which is the RPM wire in the ecu??

on my other hatch, i tapped it to this blue wire on the top right hand side of the engine. I think honda used that wire for test purposes.

Given the car is used more for driving then "drag racing", they are still annoying and useless, IMHO.

9092002SI;

Sorry for not being able to answer your question and getting a bit off the topic.

"on my other hatch, i tapped it to this blue wire on the top right hand side of the engine. I think honda used that wire for test purposes"

if im correct the blue wire you are refering to was in the bundle going to the distributor, it will not be anywhere near the same as on our ep's so dont just go out there and tap into a "blue wire", dont be cheap.! go to your local autozone pepboys etc, get the helms manual for your car, or better yet just order a service manual from your local dealership..If you dont want to do those you could always call the honda dealership and ask to speak to a technician and ask what color wire/location of the tach signal wire... --joe

Right on Mr. Spoon...listen to us dont be cheap about it and start splicing into ur electrical system without knowing what ur doing!!! Buy a Helms manual is what I think you should do!!!

Sorry but that will not work on our cars....we have no "blue" wire.

I will check my Helms tonight and see what I can find.

yack- who's race kar has a pencil shift light in the dash vents to tell him where 9,100rpm is.

hey guys i found it lol it took me like 3 hours to find the wire. anyways this wire is on the top left of our cars if your are sittin in the driver side. it is a blue wire running by itself. it is right by the head light. and it's right there very visible.

thanks for tryin anyways

umm.... we do have the blue wire. its just in a lower position but still on the same side. I asked honda and they said it would work.

I was refering to the "blue" wire that most honda owners find near the dis, that was all.

Yes, we have the wire...located at the relay/fuse box to the upper right of the inside firewall near the steering shaft.

signal comes out of the ECU to this distribution box then one conductor to the Drivers side headlight (factory test point) and the other to the tach, throughout the whole signal path the wire stays blue in color.

It would be cool to make a custom shift light, that flashes from the dash board up to reflect on the windscreen, HID-style.

are you just hooking up a shift light, or a tach w/light? I was wondering if there was a way to hook up a shift light that could be used with the stock tach

Doesn't rice rocket have one installed?
And someone has a Honda Service manual, it's got to have a wire diagram on it

Don't know about anyone else, but I can't see my tachs needle when it is near readline with my seat position and steering wheel tilt . I was thinking about putting it inside the vent so an amber glow will show..... Nice and subtle

So do you have to get a shift light or will a 12v LED work?

IF YOU GUYS LOVED YOUR CAR LIKE YOU SHOULD.... YOU WOULD KNOW THE SOUND OF YOUR CAR. LIKE WHEN ITS TIME TO SHIFT. BESIDES "BACKROADS ARE COOL! GOING STRAIGHT IS NO FUN."

I feel guilty for all the times I blip the redline getting to that point. Especially pulling out into traffic.

I'm going to mount it right in front of the steering wheel. It's not huge and not noticeable.

that's definitely not for me. Way to big and showy. I'll stick with the razo, it's about the size of a wallet

I usually go by sound too, but with a helmet on it is kind of hard to hear the car as well as you can with out. I think that a shift light would be nice however, i think that it would be a lot nicer if you were to include a swtich to turn it off for most street driving, or to set it so high that your chances of hitting on the street are severely limited IMHO

Why is that thing so huge?

I was hoping to get one that I could hide behind/inside a vent.

ortedd

both of them are kind of huge. . . you could always get an rpm activated switch and have that turn an led on. . .

msd makes one, 59 bucks at summit racing (http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=%2Fproduct%2Easp%3Fp%3D1134%26s earchtype%3Decat) i am not exactly sure how you would hook it up though, but i am pretty sure that it would work.

ortedd

it looks like vdo makes one that has a knob to adjust the rev at which the switch is triggered which would be better then the module that msd uses. . . .try racer parts wholesale (http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/sftlight.htm) for that one.

I wonder if that VDO switch can be used with a regular bulb. That way maybe you can custom imbed a small bulb into the dash somewhere and have it be discreet.

I would imagine that it could be used with any 12v accessory.
