hehehe... here's the ol' octane debate rearing it's ugly head again... i've read several of these posts before and clicked on a few links that other members have provided and decided to keep a log for myself. i went one month, filling up 91, once a week. i kept it at 70 on the freeway shifting at 3k everytime. hit traffic a few times but pretty consistent otherwise. then went one month with 87, same situation. avg mpg with 91 was 28.5 and 87 was 27.6. i know i know...this isn't the best way to test it but it was enough for me to keep using 87.

people say they felt performance gains... i dunno.. but i heard if you do major engine work(ie turbo), then switching to a higher octane will prevent knocking.

our cars are made to burn 87...so that's what i'll use. many people on this board use 91-95 octane, but like everyone says... to each his own! :p good luck

To add fuel to the fire, Hondata also put up a dyno of the latest flash some time ago that showed a consistant 1 or 2 hp gain on the higher octane over middle grade gas.

since I got my intake working properly my car feels stronger when running on 92 octane compared to 89 or less. It feels more torquey and mileage seems better. I'd hate to recommend this to everyone as this wasnt the case in the past only recently.

Ahhh yes the octance, It's been a few months.

I always use 93 or 94 if available, it may not do anything for performance but it helps my peace of mind. Running higher octance can only improve things, why not spend the extra 5 cents,
c'mon the old EP deserves it.

Heres a basic breakdown:

87 octace = better mileage, less performace
93 octane = less mileage, better performace

Our ECU's will adjust our timing based upon what grade gas we are using. I remember reading as much as 3 hp can be had by running 93 vs 87.

Only time your going to feel a difference, really, is on a dyno or under full WOT racing situations. Our Si's ECUs are advance enough in technology that it will compensate VTC and ignition timing depending on the fuel due to knocking.

I think Sunoco has like 93 octane at its pumps. I'm not sure but pretty positive
