Ok, I think I am doing the calulations correctly but here goes:

3.2 feet per meter
.3125 meters per foot
5280 feet per mile
1000 meters per kilometer
3200 feet per kilometer
1650 meters per mile

miles/hour => Km/Hour

60 Miles/hour => 99 km/hour
138 Miles/hour => 228 km/hour
180 km/hour => 110 Miles/hour???

This is too low of a top speed right?

Your calculations are correct and I think that is too low. Try to find the European Type R cluster which has a top speed of 260km.

In canada ours reads past 220km and I've had mine well over 200 and I've seen a vid of a type r that has a speedo that reads 260Km...yeah the one where the guy bury's the needle....

That "1" and "0" on the fuel guage looks silly.

You know what, That doesnt look like a Type R steering wheel. I thought they were all stitched different where the grip area was solid with no stitching.

Maybe the country thats from got ripped and has our wheel. LOL

EDIT: Ok I did my own research. Some type-R's dont have the MOMO wheel.

The 30AE had the Momo wheel, but the regular CTR wheel wasn't much different, just the stitching and no Momo logo.

I've been trying to find one of these for a while now. I've wasted a lot of time on the internet thinking that I could find one. I think it would be nice for those with Hondata. Best I can figure though, the only way to get one would be to order rom a dealership in the UK and then have it shipped. $$$$$$$$ Got to be an easier way. Someone's got to know where to get one. Anybody?

DANG!! I wish I would have taken a picture when I had my EP3 up to 140 mph (stock). I was coming from LA back to Vegas (w00t w00t Vegas!) and if anyone knows what I'm talking about, I hit that top speed coming to Stateline. I have a friend who can vouch for me hitting that, and my engine was topping out when we hit it too. (stupid rev limiter) =p But it was nice to see my needle buried in the right side of my guage.

I have an EP3 Type R Gauge Cluster which I want to install on my 2002 Civic Si but I have run into a couple of problems. The reason, I want this Gauge Pod is that I'm turning my car into a Type R. I have already installed the RSX-S drive train with 5 bolt hubs.

1st Problem: When I install the Type R Gauge Cluster, there is no night lighting for the heater/air con controls, fan control, cruise control master switch, etc... There is lighting for the Guage Pod itself. Has anyone else run into this and has a fix?

2nd Problem: The Speedo reads wrong. At what I think is 60mph/100kph it reads about 120kph. Any one run into this too and has a fix?

Rey

You got rims? This could be throwing it off. The speedos are calibrated to analize stock wheels and tires.

Rorysbrown

I have 205/45/17 tires which read perfectly with the original guage cluster so tires size is not the problem.

another difference i see is with the redlines?...the jdm cluster has a 8,500 or 8,600 redline, the european cluster has a 7,900 rpm redline...can someone explain the difference?

JDM CTR has the K20A, while the European CTR got the K20A2, same as the RSX-S.

The reason the JDM clusters only go to 180kph is because all cars/bikes in japan have to be speed limited to 112mph (180kph)
I'll ask at my local dealer this week when i'm in for a price on a ctr gauge cluster, won't be cheap though.:eek:

Try contacting A&J Racing (http://www.aj-racing.com) or another JDM importer of your choice. Won't be cheap be you could prob. get one.

Do you guys see anything weird???? Look at the REDLINE! The JDM ones go to 8500 rpms before they hit redline!

Click here for the JDM one! (http://www.ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21218)

Type R = PWN3D US Model

Rey

The reason for the lower red line than the JDM one is because the UK civic type-r gots a k20a2 motor and the JDM civic type-r has the k20a motor.

So, this tach/cluster would be ideal for anybody who has a k20a2 swap. Also, you don't have to worry about converting KPH :P

I found something very interesting out. I've been talking with my local Honda Dealer and a friend of mine who works there. I was asking around, just for kicks, to see if they could ship over a Type-R for me. They were on it for about a week or so for me trying to find out. So they got back to me and found out that there was only one thing keeping the Type-R from America. Its not the Emissions Standards that do not qualify, obviously because we have a few out-of-country engine swaps that people have done. It seems the Saftey Features do not meet with US Stadard Saftey Regulations.

Ok, so that problem is solved of the age old question,"Why wont they bring it over here." Now my question is: What saftey features doesn't it have?! My first thought was air bags.

Anyone else know anything?

ep3 ctr does have front airbags. no side airbags though.

The JDM bumper supports do not pass US regulations. Thats why we get the different(longer) bumpers and if you convert to JDM bumpers you need to get the JDM support bars.

ThorGod
01-16-2004, 06:12 PM
So the bumper supports are it, eh? I wonder if I bought the supports to be added on when the car arrives if they would let me do it. It probably won't get off the docks but its wishful thinking.:D

You should be aware that the Canadian Civic SIR will not take the JDM rear rebar when doing the conversion, you will have to get a custom made one as I did. The Canadian SIR rear rebar specifications are different than the USA Civic Si model.

Honestly, I wonder who came up with the grand idea of making 3 different Si's. If they stuck to one then we wouldn't have discussions like this one.:p

But, in defense, it does add the desire to make your USDM Si a JDM Si. But it just takes so much to get it to that point. The engine/trannys swaps, the body kits, the wheels. In the end you almost wonder wouldn't it be cheaper to just ship one over here and convert it to US saftey specs?

A European CTR would never be allowed in North America because it doesn't have the DOT decals from the factory which is mandatory. You are not allowed to convert it. The only way would be to bring one over as parts or for racing use and swap all the serial number plates with a legal Si or SIR in Canada.

Wow. So the whole 9 yards, eh? Kind of disappointing I'd say. Who knows, they might give us all a run for our money in 2006 if they bring over the new Si re-designed Type-R.

And in the end, we're still left saying,"Stoopid Honda!" :p :angel:

Has anyone come up with a fix for the "back lighting" disappearing for the heater controls, radio, etc... when you install the CTR Gauge Cluster?

fdnyjon
07-25-2012, 10:47 PM
Yeah i think the safety problem is because of the bumpers.. Crash ratings and what not. When i changed my USDM bumpers for JDM bumpers i noticed that the JDM rebar was really thin compared to the USDM one. And the rear rebar didnt even align holes.. on top of that it needed to be cut in order to fit my JDM rear bumper. Sucks but w.e :)
