So I ask this Walmart mechanic how much it would be to change my oil with synthetic and he says $30. When I told him what kinda car I have he says all they have is semi-synthetic, so I ask him what about 5w30 Mobile 1 and he says that would void the engines warrenty... is this true?

not sure but isnt the K series 5w-30 anyways?

I know my K20A2 is (it says on the oil cap)..A3 uses -20 maybe because of lower compression?

no way that change of oil can negate your warranty based on viscosity, as long as it is industry approved oil you won't have any problems.

as long as it meets te approriate classificaiton, it can't void the warranty.

like in the manual, it specifies sh, sj, etc.

as long as you use one of those, no matter the weight, it won't void your warranty.

Or it could be the fact that he works at Wal-Mart:D
He wasn't the guy that greats you at the door was he:D

j/k I used to work for Sam's Club, as I am sure you know Wal-Mart owns Sam's Club, everytime I would deposit my paycheck I would feel really bad when I handed my check with Wal-Mart lettering all over it to the banker.

Hey man, do you trust the walmart mechanics? Maybe yours are better than they are where I live but I've heard horror stories about the mechanics here. I hope they do the job right.

5W30 will not void your warranty. *I'M* using Castrol Syntec 5W30 in my SiR.

As has been mentioned before, the 5W20 is purely for fleet wide fuel savings. If you run 5W30, expect to lose 2-3% fuel efficency over the life of the car, in exchange for improved engine protection ;)

At my work, we use Petro Canada 5W20 for newer cars. It's devlivered to us bulk, but it's Honda approved for 60K mile powertrain warranties, so it can't be that bad.

I'n 2001, Accords were switched over to recommended 5W20, from 5W30 in 2000. What changed in the engine design? Nothing!
