Does anybody else have trouble downshifting from 3rd into 2nd?

My car when I first start it up every morning (hot and cold days) has trouble shifting into 2nd from 3rd gear. I know the clutch is down, but for some reason the shifter gives me resistance.

The problem becomes less frequent as the car heats up.

Are my synchro's screwed??

Any opinions would be appreciated, I plan on bringing the car in soon and I have heard other people talk about problems with 2nd gear grinding. Perhaps this is another symptom of the same problem

Thanks
G

How many K's do you have on it and what rpm do you shift down at and do you help it by giving a bit of gas before putting it into 2nd
Might be the trany is not broken in yet it takes a while

I agree with you.

More likely it's a stretched linkage cable. Take it to the dealer.

The car has 25,000km's (I dunno how many miles that is)

This problem usually happens at low speeds 30-40kmph(which is what worries me) usually around 2,000 rpm. I do not always rev match the downshift especially when I am just starting up the car.

I think the tranny is worn in enough, could this entire problem be caused by rev matching?

Thanks for the quick replies so far.

Agreed, that linkage cables need to be adjusted it's more then enough milage on the car

Any other symptoms that would cause you to believe that the linkage cables need to be adjusted? I have a similar problem although I haven't worried about it much.

I had a similar problem with my 3rd gear syncro went, I sometimes could not get it into 4th gear or it would pop out of 4th gear. Time for dax overhaul.

noticed that sometimes it pops out of 2nd gear for me. i just thought it was driver error :o but once in a while it does that to me- although not often.

like sonic imperial asked, what ARE other symptoms?

Grinding noise at high RPMS when shifiting is the only other one I had. I let it grind for about 10,000 miles and said "THATS IT!" the poping in and out of gear happened at the tail end of that 10,000 miles before I put it in for service.

If it is a stretched linkage cable, what is involved in the repair?

Would this item be covered under warranty? If not does anyone know how much a repair like this would cost?

Thanks

try tapping the gas lever first while holding down the clutch of course, i find that when i do that it pretty much just slides right in
