So, I feel like an idiot but I had serious trouble removing this thing and I pretty much almost broke it in two places before I was done. What is the easiest and safest way to do this? The manual says to use a ratchet with an extention and a cloth wrapped on the end and push it up behind it until the clips pop...is there an easier way??? i need more patience.

I reach thru the rubber boot and pull outward, I've never come close to breaking it or anything.

I give a light pull at the boot, then take a small screw driver with a paper towel or a blue shop towel and slide it up to each corner..usually pops right away, no breakage.:blushm:

I've found its the top part that is hardest to remove. If you can get the bottom open enough, by tugging through the shifter boot, you can use a finger to pop out the little blank silver piece from behind. Once that is out, you can put your finger in from the front and pull straight out from there. After the first time, it comes out easier.

This summer I went in to get my shifter knob tightened and the tech grabbed the boot and pulled up and pop done just like that, he did it so damn fast he looked like David Copperfield I still cant get mine off Ill ask him next time if you havent figured it out by then.

This method worked well for me. I was worried I might scratch something when prying the top corners. But it popped out long before anything could be damaged.

I just put my fingers in right behind the boot and pulled the bottom out, then I ran my finger up the side as far as I could and I removed the left side first, right side came out when I got the left side out, a lil bit of force was need but not too much. Getting the rest of the dash out was the real pain in the balls.
