I was noticing the other day that while my car is idling, and especially in the mornings during the first crank when it idles higher, my engine makes a washing machine type sound. I think it's always done this, like wum wum wum wum wum....etc. Is that because of the DOHC? I owned a SOHC civic before and it didn't sound like this at all. Hope it's just normal. You can also hear it at highway speeds too if you listen carefully.

I have no such sound. But then again here in Az. its like 85' at 5 in the morning:) Might be different in cooler climates.

Hmmm. Well, I just read in another thread somewhere in the general discussion where someone mentioned their's sounded like a mini chevy big block. I think that might be the sound I'm hearing. Being that I'm new to this car I'm not sure what is normal. The only reason I question it is because of the first year production.
