Just curious as to why you guys bought your EP. For me, I had a choice between the GTI 1.8T (base model) or the EP. I needed a good daily driver car that was reliable and fun to drive and also good on the auto-x course. Thats my reason. How about the rest of you :)

I was completely upside down on my 94 civic ex....saw the 1.9 and couldn't pass it up.

I used to have a Suzuki GSXR 750.....so I need a relativly fast car.

Same here...the AutoX need/bonus did not come up till recently (I bought my EP in May 2002).

Honestly, I went to the dealer looking at 5 speed Civic EX models. They didn't have any in black at the time but the salesman told me the deal they had on the Si at the time. ($16,000) Being that it was cheaper than the EX and had a lot more to offer I couldn't pass. Especially after a test drive.. Add in the 1.9% financing and I don't think there's a better car on the market for the price. I've had 3 MR2's before this and I love the car. :D

I looked at the focus SVT and liked it a lot, but cost a little more than I wanted to spend, so I decided to settle on a civic EX, which I thought was cheaper than the si. Found out the si was cheaper and I couldn't pass it up.

Primary draw was the interior

Well, I have been looking a lot of cars, and this would have been my first perchase so I didn't know if I would qualify for it. I just walked up to one of the sellsmen and said "I want a SI". They were like "ok.....wanna test drive one?". After the test drive I just about fell in love with it. It smooth yet had a slight bite to it. I knew I could get more out of my car with a little tweaking, since that most cars off the lot are not "fast" yet.

I was in the market for a 00 si but the dealer wanted 17k for a used one and even after the test drive i didnt like the 00 si as much i didnt even test drive the ep cuz i knew it was going to be alot better just by sittin in it:p ;)

My primary reason was gas mileage. I had been doing a lot of highwasy driving, and filling up my thirsty land rover (13mpg) was really cutting into my beer money--college students here will know what I'm talking about. I also wanted something with a manual transmission. So it was down to deciding between the Matrix and the Si (I guess I was oddly drawn to the rally shifter found on both), but the 1.9% fairly well made up my mind for me. And I don't know if anybody else had this experience, but when I went to test drive the Si, I sat in the one they had inside the showroom while the salesman went to get a black one (from the warehouse) for me to test drive; as soon as i felt the seat hugging me, I knew I had to have the car. It was like a brief moment of enlightenment. Mmmm....

Conrad I know you've been in the VW scene for ages, I have as well. I was looking for the same sort of thing, a fun car that I knew would be dead reliable. All my previous VW's excelled in the fun category, but sucked in the reliability department.

I've always loved sports cars, I begged my dad when i was younger and my first car was (dont hate ) a 3000gt, i had to make payments and all but it was a b-day present. Anyways so that tripped me off really bad to wanting a sports car forevAr. So I wrecked that bought an old 944, wrecked that and only could afford regular cars for awhile (vert labaron etc etc) So one day i when i was a car detailer someone brought in a brand new 99SI. I was detailing it, saw the redline etc etc, and was like damn, a nice little performance car for cheap. So I i knew then I was going to buy one, but I couldnt afford it right off the bat so 3 years and 4 cars later, I bought one.

initially, i wanted an EX coupe because my brother (CaptainMurphy) already had an EP. But after driving his and discovering that with the discounts on 02 EPs the dealer was offering made it cheaper than the EM2, it became a no brainer (it's A LOT of car for the money). i love the low-end punch this car offers and it's fun-to-drive factor is unmatched by any other $15-$16K car, IMO.

I hated the car when I got it, but it grew on me. = )

I pretty much hate you. My first car was a dodge '93 dodge shadow, and sure it was new, but I never liked it much, and I had to buy it on my own.

Its funny that no one has said that they bought the car because they liked the way it looks.
I had a 2002 EX before. The dealership that I got mine from was having a sale because they wernt selling. $14,900. But they added ~$3,000 on for the diff. on my EX. My payments went up a bit, and so did insur (it was $89 a mo for the ex, now $119) but my finance rate is really low too. cant remember what it is right now.

I got 10k on my 98 hx trade-in, it had less than 40k miles. Crazy desperate sales man. So basically I paid 7k for my SI:D

i had a 02 lx coupe and man did it drive and handle like CRAP! "i came from a 94 gsr" at first i thought the 02 si's were the beatest things that i ever saw "next to saturn" but then i saw the type-r and man did my views on the si changed. so after looking on this site, i went and traded it in for my 03 Vivid Blue Hottie!:*

o and i paid 16900 with 1.9.. w00t "in feb of 03"

I was shopping for my 4th honda car, and wanted the RSX-S. I test drove it and it felt ok, but a little sedated, and not worth the $24 sticker, so then I test drove the Si and it felt so much funner to be behind the wheel, though I knew the car had fewer hp (but nearly the same torque), so I bought it right then and there.

All in all, Im glad I didnt fall for the name-brand thing. The Type-S/Si Price difference is more than the cost of an A2 swap (esp when you sell the A3)!

i bought mine due to the fact that i loved the ep3. i was tired of all the problems on my 2000 Si so i figured that this was the new car for me.

I actually do like how it looks. Really clean, a bit aggressive, nice butt, and it even feels good while I wash it.

I didn't really buy it, though. It bought me.

I've tried out the Proteg

I was neutral on the looks until about the 2nd or 3rd day, it really started to grow on me.

It looks great, and I have always liked hatchbacks. Once I set my eyes on the EP3, the seats, the shifter, the steering wheel, and the roominess drew me closer. Then test driving it pushed me over. It was a blast to drive, and strangely I'm extremely fond of the AC fan control because it has like 8 or so notches instead of 4. :D Of course, having had great experience with the reliability of Honda vehicles in the past also helps.

Other cars considered and driven were Matrix XR/XRS, GTI 1.8T, Mini Cooper S, and SE-R Spec V. The Matrix had a lot of interior noise, and I did not care much for the way it looks. The GTI's interior reminded me too much of my brother's Beetle, and VW's reliability had me concerned. The Mini Cooper S was awesome, but had a useless backseat and was a tad expensive. The Spec V didn't feel as refined, and the wheelbase and the back seat were a joke. I think our cars have more legroom in the back then the SE-R.

I kind of wish I had driven the Focus SVT now, but I had sat in one several times and the interior never really grew on me. Something about the oval shapes just weren't very pleasing to my eyes.

I got the EP3 at an okay price, a 02 model in November of 02, $17k including fog lights, floor mats, splash guard and trunk tray (all were already equipped since it was a showroom car).

My '95 Grand Prix (POS) was getting on my nerves. So I decided I needed a NEW car.

Looked at leasing a Benz C230K, but they want $1000 extra for CD player:rolleyes:

Looked at buying a Pontiac Vibe, but the dealer was an asshole, the car didn't handle, and the engine was too high-strung.

Looked at a Celica: Didn't fit.

Looked at a VW GTI: $29K without leather shift-knob? Forget It!

Looked at a Mini Cooper: Dealer wanted $3000 OVER sticker.

Then I looked at the Civic SiR: I didn't think it was the prettiest car at first, but I took it for a test drive! It did everthing I wanted it too, and did nothing I didn't want it to.

The EP reminds me of the type of girl who; even though isn't the prettiest thing ever, more than makes up for it by being smart, a good cook, and great in the sack!

Primarily, I wanted something with a touch of performance that I could still cram my son and his hockey stuff in the back (he's 9). Additionally, I wanted a car that I didn't see coming and going, and that I could likely count on from a reliability standpoint. Truth be told, if I had another 6 months to round up some more cash, I'm quite sure something other than the Si would've ended up in my garage (SRT-4, WRX, Cooper, SVT etc.), but I needed new wheels, and I knew I could get a good deal on the Si, so I went for it. I'll admit that I'm bored with the car, which is probably a product of the fact that I don't have any extra $$$ to throw at it to "tinker." That said, it has been dead-nuts reliable (not a big accomplishment given it only has 10k, but hey...), and I still have moments where I really like it. I just wish it had about 40 more horsies and a real suspension/tire package underneath.

:'(

A couple reasons for me. . .1) I had been driving a used car that I was going to fix up a little (convertible), but ended up being too much of a hassle. The entire car needed rewiring.

2) The Mitsubuishi dearlership (the first place I stopped at) had two convertible Eclipses, both ugly cream-white. ANd two other Eclipse GT's also ugly cream-white.

3) I am impulsive, seeing that the Honda dealership was only the second I went to. If I had actually made it to the dealership that sells Subarus and VW's, I would have sure purchased a WRX/STi/or GTI.

4) Once I sat in the car and felt how comfortable I was, I was sold. I am 6'2" 265 lbs. and needing a car that is truly comfortable. . .the Si was it.

And to add to 2) THE EVO WAS NOT OUT YET, I would have sure taken that baby home.

1) I needed a new car ASAP.
2) I wanted something "unique".. not very many around
3) I wanted a Civic (replacing my 95 LX which I gave to my sister and still chuggin along)
4) price:performance greater than EX because of the incentives
5) looks.. not at first, but really grew on me as i did more research on it
6) the shifter!! the shifter!! the shifter!! and the rest of the interior of course

I was bored one day and decided to get rid of my 91 teg and saw one at the Honda dealership and I liked the way the rear looked and the interior. Then I test drove one and liked the way it drove. Two days later I was driving home in one.
