How much did you pay for the lil scan gadget? Me like, way to go.

The kit is like $290.00 directly from them, but I got it on ebay for $188.00 shipped ;) Minus the hot sync cable.

Go get one for yourself (http://cgi6.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=davektm&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=50)

The Palm Zire 71 Cost me $299.00 plus tax at Best Buy.

Hot Sync cable from PDA to USB/Serial $19.99 at Best Buy.

Damn, this thing is cool. I like all it's options and live readings for all these sensors. Many features! It's like the Nology one but cheaper hehehe.

They list what pda's will work, but make sure you send the manufacuer an email about the pda you are lokking at to make sure it will work. And they do respond in 24hrs.
I made a mistake and bought a Tungsten E, because they listed all Tungsten supported. It wasn't true, cuz that Tungsten E pda has USB connection and I couldn't get it work with all the gender changers and serial to USB connector I had. Reason is serial to USB needs to be powered and the PDA will not power it :( .

Oh, if you get this kit. Make sure you get a color display PDA, easier to read and looks better. Plus the Palm Zire 71 (the one I got) has built in Camera hehehe.

Now I need to get more memory for it.

Is there anything like this, but on a Laptop, not a PDA?

bioevolve

I haven't seen anything for the laptop, but there probably is.

This morning:
I gonna get into an accident playing with this thing while driving hehehehe. I noticed that I will have to move the OBDII connection or something. It's hitting/rubbing my right shin, probably reroute the cable into the dash unit. Also need to mount a bracket for the PDA so it's easier to veiw and work.

I've really enjoyed mine, done a lot of data logging it too. Clearing check engine lights is pretty handy as well when they occur. I believe the auterra software can be loaded onto a laptop and you can use a laptop as well with the appropriate serial connection, they give you the option on the disc that comes with it. You may want to email the manufacturer to be totally sure, but I am almost positive I have the programs for it on my cd.

I was disappointed that we can't get fuel economy data from our cars, the fine print says only MAF equipped vehicles, we have MAP sensors though. All in all still enjoy the little toy. The dyno data can be pretty consistent if you practice with it and get all of the input data variables correct. The numbers arent really comparable to a dynojet set of numbers, but you can get the thing to be fairly consistent and thus be used for tuning purposes.

hope you enjoy it, have fun with it.

Joey

Where can I get an OBDII adapter?

bioevolve

At the manufactuer for the pda kit. I think it is $49.99.

Well it looks like I need the OBD II adapter and cable now because the Auterra website says that the Auterra serial connection will damage a pc with a standard serial connection. I really don't like any of these interfaces that companies like Auterra provide.

I'm going to do something like this:

Y-not just take a laptop apart and slap it in the dash with retractable keyboard/touchpad and screen like the HU DVD screen units:D ;)

I've thought of a more elegant way of doing it and if I can ever sit down and start coding, I'll probably market it somehow.

Had a problem installing the program to a Secure Digital Memory card, but it is solved. See Below:

Subject: Software problem

I have a Palm Zire 71, my problem is that when I install your software into the Secure Digital memory card it errors (no vehicle database installed).
But when I install it into palm's memory it works. Shouldn't it work in both memory areas?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The DTC databases only works when installed into the Palm memory.

Sincerely,

It does everything they say on their site, except what JSIR said about the fuel eco data. I'm happy with it. Better than the other one I had lol.

Scan tools are more popular with the domestic market. My brother and I have been using Turbo Link for our GM turbo's for years. Scan tools only allow you to view what the computer is seeing. You have to adjust the car manually. Stand alone is still the way to go IMO. Here is the link for it:
