A local muffler shop will make me a 2 1/4" exhaust with a flowmaster 40 series muffler & a chrome tip (the flat opening kind) for $301.. Good deal? This includes installation & a life-time warranty..

no, spend the extra 100 for a quality catback.

no.
just get maganaflow catback for 300 shipped off ebay.

I think that's a good deal. However, you'd probably be just as happy
(performance wise) with just the midpipe and just keeping the stock
muffler/axle back. Unless you want the look and sound of a different
muffler/tip.

Also, you can pick up a Magnaflow catback for $275 from eBay, just
for reference.

I'm just getting it for the sound mainly. I doubt i'll get much of a performance increase out of it.

Btw as far as I can tell, the Magnaflow Catback is $275 before any bids have been placed, with 8 days remaining... And that wouldn't include s&h & installation

One guy has one (used, 500 miles) for $249 buy it now...The other
auctions seem to never get any bids, so you can probably get it for
the $275 price. You can probably use the "ask a seller" option and
just contact them directly for their best price. A couple others
have managed to get it for that price.

What kind of sound would I get from it? I don't want the ricey high-pitched sound. I want the flowmaster deep sound :\

The Magnaflow system is nice and deep, no high pitched sound at all. Spend you money on some quality STAINLESS STEEL stuff and forget about it. It will be worth the $50 later on down the road.

Well the custom exhaust he was going to make is stainless steel, along with the stainless steel flowmaster muffler & stainless steel tip. Lifetime warranty on everything.. It wouldn't be mandrel bent though. Although I doubt that would make a bit of difference...

300 is too much for crush bent and a muffler. you asked us if we thought that was a rip and it is. spend the extra 100 for a greddy if you want the sound. greddy is the best sounding exhaust out there.

I know, I'm not trying to argue with you guys. But I don't see how getting a mandrel bent exhaust would help our car at all unless it's being turbo'ed, etc. And would the greddy sound much better than a flowmaster 40 muffler? Btw the greddy exhaust is like $625

i guess you won't see much of a diff mandrel vs crush, but if you are spending like 300 already for a custom catback it might as well be mandrel. you can get a crush bent midpipe for like 75 bucks or less. a greddy evo can be had for around 420. if you really want this custom setup because you don't want to spend anymore cash then i say go for it. i can't tell you how it will sound though.

Do a search for magnaflow. There's a huge thread on here about it. By the time you're done reading it, you'll probably want the magnaflow. One of the best exhausts for our car and probably the best deal for what you get. Plus, install it yourself (pretty easy) and isn't that half the fun?

BTW, I picked mine up from hottexhaust.com for $322 shipped, but the ebay seems to be offering an even better deal.

I don't know how to weld :\

Btw

Anyone notice the URL in the little description page is wrong? PERFORMANCE CUVE

Lol...

jerky

you shouldn't have to weld. it should be a direct bolt on. and the exhaust is one of the easiest things to put in. headers suck.:)

If you want the pipe to be 2-1/4" all the way through, then you don't want it to be crush bent. "Crush bent" means just that -- it's crushed into shape. You'll have diameters measuring less than 2-1/4" at the bends, sometimes significantly less.

Every brass musical instrument on the planet -- trumpets, trombones, tubas, etc. -- is built from tubing that is mandrel bent. It's the only way to reasonably preserve a design's complex flare shape, and the bends end up being quite a bit stronger than if they were crush bent.

I've wanted to say it for a long time -- I can't picture putting a crush-bent pipe on my car, especially when the mandrel option exists.

Well i'm having trouble actually finding the magnaflow catback for $275 (+ shipping around $300). Performance-curve.com's honda section for the magnaflow cat-back doesn't work. I really don't want to bid on one and have it end up being around $330.

Buy it now price of $249.00. Used for 500 miles. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33630&item=2438801895)

Another guy on ephatch said:

hottexhaust.com for $322 with free fed ex shipping

Someone else on here got it via eBay, not sure if it was this
seller or not...(the performance-cuve guys).

See if you can find the part number for that magnaflow that was on
eBay, then when you ask your local place, make sure that it ends up
being the same part.

You are probably better off ordering it online, unless you've got a
local shop willing to offer you a sweet deal. A guy where I live bought
a Greddy EVO for over 500, I think and you can find them online
for under 400...

MAGNAFLOW $305 shipped from 'preformance_curve' on Ebay. Install it your self, its about 6 bolts, fits directly in place of oe. sounds deep, get attention, however doesnt scream (well it does around 6.5k rpm, but what exhaust doesnt?)

i have it and love it!

It's more than $305. That's if you get it and noone else bids on it. There isn't a buy it now option.
