View Full Version : Where to put the front license plate?

I took my license plate off today, removed the entire little mount that it came with when I bought the car. I really don't want to look like a ricer, but that little stock plastic mount was eatting a nasty little line into the paint on my front bumper. Anyways, so now that it's off I need somewhere to put it. I would like to have it be something I can do right now because I don't want to get pulled over for it. Is there somewhere I could put it, even if it is inside the cabin like on the dash or something just tell me somewhere I could put it or how. I'm pretty sure TX law is that I need it somewhere pretty visible.

I have my front plate in my room.:smilem: :smilem: If I ever get pulled over for it I will put it on, pay the $10, get it signed off and then drive home and take the ugly thing off again.

Right after I bought my Ep, the damn thing was flapping on my drive home. So I turned right back to the dealer, and got them to take it off for me. Here we don't need a front tag, so I say put it back on in the org. spot if you have to. Just make sure that it is tight.

What are u planning on doing with the hole they drilled in the bumper?

I have seen some peoples plates mounted upside down in the sense that the top of their plate is mounted to where the bottom of my plate connects to the lower grill. But I have a bloody hole in my bumber.

Anyways, I'm interested cause front plates are fugly

Hmmm mount that thing upside down... I like the idea but not sure if it will work. Lemme go try, but its plastic so I can't really bend it either
Oh and they didnt drill any holes in my bumper, otherwise I would've just left it there.

What are you talking about bro? Our car comes with a holder for the front & rear plate. If that dealer drilled a hole in your front bumper cover, they owe you a new one IMO, thats B**L-S**T

My car came with a front bumper plastic thing (very technical). When I removed the four screws that hold that plate to the plastic thing, there is one bolt holding the plastic thing to the bumper. Removing it leaves a hole smack in the middle of my bumper.

thats f*cked up...there are mounting holes if you look underneath the front bumper for the liscense plate. I would take that back to the dealer and make them fix that hole. Bad dealership, Bad

Hey, I wouldn't put the license plate on your dashboard. Many kids in my area used to do it, but if you're ever in a head-on collision, that piece of metal on the dash is like ramming your head into a knife blade.

Ever seen those slo-mo crash tests? The dummies heads' are always way up into the dash upon collision. If not their heads, then their shoulders or arms. So please take care of yourselves and your passenger and leave the front license plate in your room, where it should be!

I already talked to the dealer about it. They are supposed to drill that hole, however, apparently a lot of dealerships dont, and only use the bottom two points.

I actually bought the car, and then remembered OH SHIT! dont attatch the plate and oops too late they already did.

I was pissed. I dunno how strict they are about front plates up here. But the ticket would be soo small and how many cops take the time to walk around front of the car.

Where to put the front plate?

I put it under my seat and the bracket is in the house. It is illegal not to have a front license plate in Ohio, but I haven't had any trouble and I have been doing it for years. Remember, if you want attention from the cops, do stupid things, most don't really care around where I live. However, not having a license plate is PC.

this is what I did, flip the frame upside down, no cuts no nothing, and cable tie it.

I thought about flipping the mount, but I didn't want to have it rubbing against the bottom lip.

I found out that another EP driver in our area modified his plate, and I asked local law enforement people if I could do the same to mine and not have any problems. They said, "As long as it's visible, and all the letters & numbers are the same as the plate on the back, it's OK."

So, no pseudo-Japanese or narrow UK plates for me, but here's my "euro-ed" front plate (and photoshopped add-on in the lower pic, but it's the same dimensions as the modded plate):
