well guys, my buddy Lorenzo did it again... He did the best possible install on my radio that one could imagine.. It started out with the metra kit(which only comes in black) and finished with a masterpiece.. The headunit is the sony MEX-1HD.. It has a 10 gig hard drive built into it. if you guys want step by step let me know... I have plenty of pics... peace.....

I thought it was a one piece thing painted silver already and shaved nicly like that from where u got it...untill i read about the filling and sanding...lol
I want to put a LCD in that space, removing the head unit and the slot below it..can anyone point me in the right direction? I've seen LCD screens for sale, but where i do i get moldable plastic of whatever I need to shape it and whatnot.

Damn that stereo is expensive I've seen them around here for around 1599.99. I am however looking at getting the next step down from that one which is the all silver model and it's a grand less.

Oh and that looks badass.

You paid $1600 just for a radio? A fool like that deserves to get his radio stolen. That's just dumb to spend any kind of money like that on a car if it can be taken out in 5 minutes by a good thief. I learned my lesson after i got my whole system cleaned out.

hey people...i know someone in here has gotta know how to make some kinda custom dash piece to house an LCD screen..anyone.. point me in the right direction. I know it's gotta be cheaper than a $1,000+ head unit. but all i want is the LCd, i can take care of the rest o' my plans >:-)

Where are those "step by step" pics??? Even I am impressed. Very sharp, clean looking. WHich kit did he use?? Details please.

Also what was the EXACT paint he used to match the finish up?? Its an excellent job.

So we need at the very least, kit used, paint used, and Im assuming bondo resin and hand sanding?? Orbiter?? Details! DETAILS!!!! My dash is apart as we speak and Im about ready to do the same thing with my Alpine CDA 7998.(It retails for a measly $900)

dude, what kind of features does your cda have that warrants that $900 price? and most importantly, who in their right mind would pay that much for a car reciever.

It only takes a few minutes one night to get all your shit stolen. I learned that the hard way. After that, I decided to spend my money and stuff besides the car. That's the worst thing to invest in. I mean, go ahead, within common sense. but $900 on one reciever? i know you already bought it so this is fallin on deaf ears. but just wanted to air myself out.

Dude, $900 on a car reciever for me is the "norm". I pay for quality. It has features that are important to an audiophole. Like low impedance outputs with outboard DC to DC converter, built in fully adjustable crossovers(2 or 3 way), with fully adjustable slope(6,12,18,24 db), direct path audio path with no caps in the signal traces, fully active third octave eq built in(great for those who own an Audio control SA-3055 RTA like me!)for perfect fine tuning to a cars natural acoustics, and even digital time correction. I personally could care less about the other bells and whistles(like organic displays which it does have), but it packs a punch where necessary. Besides, I have always had high end(Eclispe 55060,Alpine 7949,7909,7940,Kenwood PS900,905,907,909,911) decks in all my cars and have NEVER had 1 stolen. Plus I have quite a few sound off trophies in SQ(sound quality) from over the last few years to fill a closet. To me $900 is a drop in the bucket for something to have a passion for. My car system sounds better than most people's home audio system. Did I mention that I am the proud owner of a pair of Revel Ultima's and a pair of Jems?:D

I don't know what the hell you just said but I guess it proves that there are different breeds of "audiophiles"

Umm yeah. There are those who just want it loud(whether it sounds balanced or like crap), and then there are those who want it loud where they think they are in the front row of a live concert and can point their finger to where the band members are playing, which to some of us is called "imaging". Most kids dont understand true imaging till they hear a properly tuned audio system.

ritteri, that intall is very nice, but i have to ask, do you really own a set of revels? damn those are nice speakers. I mean you have to post a few pics of your home audio system too. I used to be into hifi, but the costs were just too much. (Had trouble paying $2500 for a cd player, with no remote) But posts some pics anyways, and tell us what other mods you dod to your car stereo. I always wondered how you could get a proper soundstage in a car, Hell i had troublegetting one in my house. Later.
