My car was broken into today. I parked at about 2 and at about 4 some friends came to my door asking if I'd seen my car. They went out with me and I see glass all over the ground, my head unit is gone, car full of glass, and dash ripped apart. With this break in I feel like I've joined a club here, but I sure as fuck would rather not be in it.
I realized how much I love my car though, when I saw it and started crying. My car's gonna be in the shop for a while, and I dont know how I'm gonna get home for thanksgiving.
Please people tell me everything's gonna be okay, especially some of you other folks that have had stuff jacked, I wanna know how everything worked out for you guys. I cant believe this happened.

Also is it possible that my shift linkage may have been fucked up when they ripped out the dash. I just wanna make sure since I sure as hell wont be paying for it that anything that couldve been screwed up is back to new.

yeah man i feel for you, my ep3 is honda number 12 and at least 6 past ones have been stolen, i moved to a better area where i thought i wouldnt have the same problems, and a little while ago i had my ep broken into, my seats were stolen. i was like what the f k man, so after i got the insurance dough i bought some sparco turinos and tinted the windows with 5t percent so no one can see inside too much, but its rough man, everyone doesnt have the same morals, all you can do is try your best t o keep her safe, try to park in areas where its not too hidden, get an alarm or two and thats it. I mean hookin my ride up makes me happy and theres nothing i can do itys like an adfdiction, cant stop so just gotta do what makes me happy and hope shes stays safe, just try not to gop too crazy with the system, so theres not much to steal. I dunno, people suck man:mad:
but remember for us that do the right thing we'll always be blessed with nice things:angel:

You started crying? I'm sorry, but I just picture that guy in your avatar standing there balling his eyes out. Damn, that cracks me up.

It's going to be fine, bro. Shit happens. Cars get injured. File an insurance claim, clean it up, and do it up better than before. You should see the pieces of shit I've cleaned up and made pretty nice cars. We're talking junk-yard specials. Your car will be fine.

Hey im sorry to hear that. as reassurance i would like to say that from what i have been thru in the past insurance will take care of you. And as for Trippz idea, it may be an idea to watch your friends because if they are caught thu the legal process you can press charges and sue for emotional damages and loss days at work because of transportation or work you had to do to take care of this.. hope all his well, and why does the bobb dobbs always have something negative to say... I hope that one day ephatch was just about cars and not jokes of people in hard times.... keep your head up, im sure things will work out for the better... take care, dave

Anyone who knows his Hunter S Thompson can't be all that bad. He's not negative, he went on to say that things would be fine. Besides, that kid does look like he just dropped his ice cream cone and is about to start bawlin....

Negative is Performance-Curve selling one magnaflow at 305 with shipping and charging more for the rest. That's more sleezy than a used car dealer with a whole can of crisco in his hair trying to sell a ford aspire for 10 grand.

*Slams head on desk* I want my Magnaflow damnit!

Bobdobbs is the man. He speaks the truth and doesn't beat around the bush. In my opinion he is always being mature in his comments. Maybe you guys just need to grow up and realize shit does happen.

As for the dude that got his car vandalized... Sorry to hear that. My car was stolen and never recovered... I had all the repiepts for my after market stuff, but my insurance didn't give me jack. Its just life. You'll get through it okay... even though I don't trust anyone anymore.

Look, noob, you need to check yourself. You need to understand that some of us know each other on this forum and we can give each other shit without getting all butt-hurt. I've conversed with danoonez in many threads and based on what I've seen of his personality, he's not going start crying like a baby like you do when somebody looks at you cross-eyed. Do yourself a favor and back off. You do NOT want me pointing out how stupid you are every time you post, like in that retarded Hondata "group buy".

Noob?? are you a ephatch veteran or something? i have been a member a month less than you. I'm not a post whore like you. I just talk when i need to, and when i try to help others. If you want to joke around with others thats great, and i will stay out of it, but i dont like shit talkers in forums about cars. And for the second time, what part of norcal are you in.

"noob" is about your attitude. You don't get it. You don't like shit talkers and I don't like whiny babies, like you and your "I dont know how you can just talk to someone over the internet that you dont know and talk so much bullshit." Boo friggin hoo. Like you're something special. Get over it.

And yeah raiyo seems like a cool norcal guy and you dont, and to tell you the truth, you would probably like hanging with me more than 90% of the people you have ever met because i make people feel good about themselves. Maybe if i did meet you and you were the same way you are now, we could have the first fight between ephatch members..:D I would love to fuck you up.... to the rest of you, i apologize for this, and this will be the last message i send in a thread towards bobbslobbsnob.

i agree. the only people that can get off the club are the people who are so good at hopping cars that it doesnt matter what you have, if they truly want it, they will get it, and thats the sad truth. read theft 101, its kinda creepy. take care, and like STP said, get the club, its intimidating too.

Life will go on,now I am over securitized(is that a word)? got three
types of security on my new ride. I now dont plan to ever put a stereo
in my cars now as I hate to do all the work and possibly loose it again. IMHO try to park in the safest place possible and dont mod it
and make it such a target. some may say dont live you life in fear
but i'm sorry once you've been violated you will think about it the
rest of your life. every single day I wonder if my car will be there

Anyway, thanks for all the kind words from all you folks. My car sits at a teammate's house right now. She looks ghetto fab. with the lightweight race inspired trash bag window replacement and the duct tape decals. I was thinking that we go from somewhere in the Marina District then go to the Headlands for some pics with the Golden Gate behind us, and then like you said we could go out towards stinson or pt reyes, thats a great place for cruising. Let me know some suitable dates, this time of year gets real busy.....

btw it sounds like a great deal with the wife.... if you want bring her there i might bring my lady along for the ride too...

I don't understand why people would add ANYTHING to their car, without installing an alarm first. It's practically the first thing I did. AND, head units have removable faces for a reason.

AND, head units have removable faces for a reason.
Yeah I know, which is why I dropped a slew of f-bombs when I looked in my hiding spot and opened up my face holder and realized I'd forgotten to take it off.
And yeah you can bet your ass I'll be getting an alarm after this whole thing, even though I'm putting everything back to stock.

I'm wondering, has anyone gotten their head unit stolen or their car even broken into if they took their face plate off? Now I know most people don't want to carry around the face plate everytime they are out of their car, but you could just put it in the glove box or center console where any would-be thief couldn't see it. Then again, faces aren't that expensive and a theif might recognize you took your face off, meaning you have a nice system, and steal it anyway. But at the least, it is much less likely to be stolen if you put the face in your pocket or in your glove box.

I think on most of them the face has a unique code that will only work with the unit it came out from the factory with.

I know my old head unit did, it told me to write the code down and keep it in a safe place in case I ever lost the faceplate.

BluePearl03Si
11-24-2003, 03:06 AM
Now I'm not saying he couldn't rip out your speakers, amp, woofers, ect. But the head unit, which is the really expensive part on most systems. And if the theif can't see the amp he'll prolly move on to easier prey. And keep your cover over your cargo area, bass doesn't really get dulled out by that cover and it keeps people from peeking at what goodies you have back there. Woofer Box/Amps, Nitrous Bottles, ect. It's a gamble to break in that may not pay off and the experienced theif should move on. Of course the heroin addict who needs his fucking fix NOW won't care and kick the shit out of your car, rip the unit out even though he can't use it, and just generally thrash it.

My solution is fairly simple if it could be pulled off, make a mount that fits behind a fake front of the factory stereo, complete with flashing red LED. The Fake front could be removed and stored when driving. This isn't any more complicated to do than a detachable face, and you wouldn't have to carry anything with you.

Honda's antitheft radio that needs a code after being disconnected isn't such a bad idea, except only a moron would rip off a stock radio. Apply it to a higher end unit and it would work better.

Of course no one makes these that I know of, so you'd have to get creative.

Thats whole code thing is bull. I have a good friend of mine that does stereo work for a living and he told me that those codes can be reset without too much trouble. There's actually a couple places out here that do it. Those codes are a false sense of security if you ask me.

Good point to bring up. I wasn't aware of that. I guess I'll be buying a cd player that doesn't have a detachable face. I look at it like this, if a theif wants your radio, he's going to find a way to get it. Best thing is to park your car in a garage at night. Even then your car still isn't FULLY safe. It's just a car/radio guys, it can be replaced.

danoonez

It's just a car/radio guys, it can be replaced.

Oh no man I realize that, Im not really that mad about the head unit (it skipped a lot anyway;) ) Its mostly the other facts of the matter that piss me off-1) these people thought they deserved my hard work more than I did, 2) they broke a window and destroyed the dash, 3) I think they damaged the shift linkage but we'll see once i get it back, 4) now because they wanted my head unit I have to go without my car for who knows how long and I dont know if I'm gonna get to go home for thanksgiving--those things piss me off more than anything, hell I wouldve been more than happy to take the head unit out and give it to them rather than they fuck everything up (i'm obviously being just slightly facetious here, but you get my point)

All that said, what do you guys think I should do, leave it stock now or buy another aftermarket head unit (i think i'll go alpine this time, RF sucked)...oh and does anybody know where that thread is that had all the pictures of the head units?

When my old car got broken into, they took everything but the RF deck go fiqure. Sounds like some beginners took your shit. It sucks but people really don't care what it takes to get something they want. My buddy just got his shit stolen from his civic by some real pros. Took his Amp and deck and caused no damage and didn't even upset the alarm. He came out like his car wasn't even touched except for a hold in his dask where his stereo was.

Anyway I hate to say it but chances are your insuarce company will not cover your stereo, since you probebly have whats called a deductable and what they will do is take an estimate of all the damages and whatever theft coverage you have and then take the deductable out, which is usually $250 or $500. Anyway sorry to hear about your loss. Anyway everyone else be carefull since its the holidays and winter and theives are out expecially at the mall parking lots.

i think it was one of the cowboys fans (my school lets them use our lots for parking), but I didnt recognize the car parked next to me and when i went to survey the damage it was the only car gone--therefore in my biased opinion, if you're a cowboys fan you suck:mad:

I did that with the head in my old car, but without an LED.

After I got the aftermarket one installed, I took the stock one and pried its buttons, knobs, and face off, and used Super Glue to attach each button & knob to the face piece. When I parked, I would pull out the head (hey, this was thirteen years ago, when pullout HUs were normal), put it under my seat, and drop the stock cassette player's face onto the hole.

You couldn't tell that I had an amp and better speakers. and that stock faceplate was perfect camouflage.

If/when I get a new HU for my EP, I'm going to try to find a way to use the stock head's face the same way. I just can't help but think that an aftermarket head with its faceplate removed is just an invitation to steal other stereo stuff (or seats, or the whole car).

UPDATE:

Well I received an early Christmas present today. That's right, exactly one month after dropping my car off at the body shop, I got my car back today. It was actually done at the shop last Wednesday, but the body shop was in Irving (the car was broken into while I was at school) and I am now at home in S.A. and work prevented me from making a special trip back to pick it up. So I had to wait for my brother to come home with it (he goes to school at TCU so he swung over to Irving and picked it up and drove it home). But anyway, as you all said, everything turned out fine in the end and my Si and I are finally back together.
