This is really getting on my nerves. I honestly think that my transmission is not geared the way it should be. How can an engine safely run and return an alleged 28 MPG highway when its running at 4000 RPM at only 80 mph?! This is ridiculous! I want to ask anyone who is reading this post to verify your engine RPM's IN FIFTH GEAR while doing 80 mph in a safe area. Also, if anyone has calculated their REAL fuel economy I would appreciate that too. Thank You.

I feel the exact same way. I don't think it is at all right going 80mph and being at @4000 rpm. When I was breaking my car in I didn't go above 4000rpm. There ar highyways around my home here in AZ that are a 75mph speed limit and I turned into the slow one. If you do find anything out if it is wrong or something, please let me know.

I know exactly what you mean - When I lived there, if you didn't go AT LEAST 70 on the 101/202 or I-10 (when it isn't gridlocked) people would almost drive you off the road! I feel your pain and its good you were careful enough to take it easy during the break-in period. I see people in brand new cars with the temp. sticker on the window doing like 90 mph around here!

Apparently it's normal.

All of our cars are like that. I'm sure Honda wouldn't have made it that way if it wasn't safe.

Yeah, mines like that too. How many miles do you guys get on a full tank. I only get about 220-240 miles.

I get about 30mpg I think alot of you just have a heavy right foot :) But have you ever tried to accel at 80 by flooring it, the car just takes right off because its already at 4k, lots of top end acceleration, of course a higher redline would allow the car a higher top speed...

I mostly drive short around the town trips with a lead foot. Those trips get me about 24/tank. I took it on a trip recently and was cruising 70-80 for the whole time (yeah, high rpms) and I got like 28ish mpg. Its definitely irritating to have the RPMS that high but its how they built it.

I'm about the same. Altough, I have 220-240 miles 'til the gas light goes on. I don't let it get too far past that though.

Yeah, that's what I ment. I get 220-240 when the gas light comes on. Coming from a V8 Camaro it sure is nice to be able to put $5.00 and ride for a good while. I put $5.00 in my Camaro and it would be gone by the end of the day.

So far the best I've gotten is around 31mpg. That was doing 75-80 into the next state and back on roads that were far from flat (PA turnpike). I thought that was pretty good. Not as good as the almost 38 mpg I got in my girlfriends new civic lx in a trip to chicago.

But, I usually don't get anything close to that in the city. Never have, even in other cars. We all have lead feet, but this car is so fun. Who can blame us, right?

My lead foot and constant short trips yields about 24mpg on most fill ups. Still way better than my maxima.

i've been averaging about 26-28 mpg. about 290-300 miles before i fill up.

that light comes on way too early, with about 3.5 gallons left in the tank...so 75-90 miles left in the tank.

It's normal guys. All of our cars are geared that way. I duno how some you are averaging such high MPG....I only get 23 mpg with mixed driving.
