I'm going to be getting new rear speakers and I was looking for some help as to which one will sound and mount best. I've heard of people buying some and not being able to get the mounting holes to match. Im looking to spend 60-100$ for the pair. everyone's suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In the rear I have Alpine SPS-170A great fit, great sound. This is the thread I was in when I asked the same question.

thats what i ordered for my setup that I'm currently building. Didn't want anything too powerful in the rear, since no one is ever back there. $60 shipped is a good price.

That's them at a very good price IMO, but I don't know much about what the best stuff is and what price it should be. I got them because I was told they fit and they do very well. The mounting ring the Alpine speakers come with, are the key and I just cut the stock speaker plug off and wired in the new connectors.

I have the CDT CL-6's but haven't put them in yet.

You can get them for $45 shipped from www.thezeb.com HERE (http://www.thezeb.com/caraudio/CDT_Audio_FullRange.html)

A bunch of people from Sounddomain.com gave them an excellent review and said they were well worth the retail price of $100 and at half the price they're a steal, so I'm excited to finally get 'em in there ;) Hopefully it won't take a lot of work though...

I wouldnt put alpine components up front, in the rear is ok because you just need them to act as a filler, so sound quality isn't top priority. up front i would choose something a little better, like mb quart or something.

Personally I think its important to have good mids in the front and the back to get a richer, cleaner sound. Alpine makes good speakers for the money, however I like the way Infinity mids sound. Are you running your mids off the deck or an amp? If you are running them off an amp you can make cheap speakers sound good.

fronts will take a 5.25" component set w/ no modification, you could always cut the hole in the door bigger though. :p
rears will take a 6.5"

the best way to set up an in car stereo system is to have a well designed frontstage, with good stereo seperation. you have to remember that music is recorded in stereo, so only 2 channels are needed (front left and right). having rear speakers that are running full range, will make the sound less clear. because the rear speakers are a different distance away from your head than the fronts, the sound from the different speakers reach your ears at different times. its ideal to have no rear fill, but if you really want it, to run a bandpass signal to the speakers. hope that helps! :smilem:

i think 5.25s would be too small for me in the front...and i get a good price on the 6.5 anyway..

Are you sure that a 5.25" component system will fit the front? Crutchfield says that it is a 6.5".

like always, crutchfield is WRONG. im have a pair of focal polykelvar 136k, which uses a a 136mm (5.35") woofer and it fits perfectly. anything bigger, and you'll have to cut the metal on the door.

not only crutchfield, but other websites say that front speakers are 6.5

yeah, and they're all WRONG! ;) but you dont have to take my word for it, try to shove a 6.5" in there w/o cutting the door! :D

mmmmmm focal polykevlars.. i bet youre lovin that.

i plan on infinity kappas in the rear and focal components in the front..
already have an audiobahn alum 10 in a sealed box and a rockford power 800 for it, should be getting an alpine head soon
last thing i have to do is decide on the amp for the mids/components.. i might just get another rockford..

if you can post a picture of you installing those 6.5" speakers into your doors without cutting or using a trim ring, you'll be the man, but until then, youre a prick for doubting someone just trying to help you out! :p

so did you have to make the hole bigger?:p

and im not doubting that you have to make the existing hole bigger, im just saying that maybe the stock speakers are 6.5"

**and please dont call me a prick..im not here to start a flame war or get involved in one...im simply showing you what i found and what other sources say...while you have shown us nothing**

no, i didnt have to cut the hole any bigger, im using a 5.25" woofer. im not calling you a prick, you called yourself that in your last post. youre showing us what you found, but what you found is WRONG. here's some proof.

replacing stock speakers on an ep3 (http://www.k-series.com/tech_detail.php?Tech_ID=EP_SPEAKER_INSTALL)

that door was cut to fit a 6.5" and i suspect your door is going to need some cutting too. so bust out the tin snips, crack open a beer, and have fun cutting your door :D
